My sweet, adventurous Mille fleur, Scout went through a her first molt a month ago and is now timid and mostly white (she was mostly caramel color prior to the molt) !? She also has bad dander and a pale comb. I have given her some coconut oil, which she (and the other chickens) loves.
I am...
So sorry to hear about your chicken. I wanted to reach out as I too am having a chicken-with-foot-issues problem (but I think it is because its broken).
I don't have much to share regarding the foot, but one trick I have used when my chickens aren't eating is wetting their food (and holding...
Hi All,
I am writing for my neighbor who has recently begun keeping backyard chickens – I am helping him along the way and now need to ask for your help.
One of the pullets (1 to 2 months old) has a hurt foot (I wonder if she may have been dropped?). This happened about a week ago – the top...
I wish she was molting and that was the answer.
I do not want to get ahead of myself, but is lymphoid leukosis common? The timing (nearing the age of maturity) and symptoms (pale comb) align.
I will see my chicken this weekend and look for the other symptoms: loss of appetite, diarrhea...
Hello and thank you for reading my post.
One of my one year old bantoms – perhaps a Mille Fleur d'Uccle (I am not sure due to adoption) – has had a very pale head and comb for the past month. Additionally, while she was top chicken a month ago, she is now skittish, gets pecked on, and refuses...
Thank you! At this point, I feel like I have to try it all and hope for the best. And, Vitamin D does make sense – thank you again for your advice.
How did you determine the dosage/administer the vitamin?
I am at a loss right now with how to best care for my chickens, which are almost two years old and much loved.
Last week one of my three chickens became very sick as a soft egg shell was stuck inside her. She had been laying soft eggs for two weeks prior. I separated her from the flock...
Wonderful! I'm on it.
Also want to mention that the egg must have previously ruptured inside of her....this would explain her slimly-like, gooy bowl movements.
Only the soft egg shell is left.
Tips for preventing this in the future? I read about liquid Calcium?
...my chicken is lethargic and was without appetite. Yesterday I separated her from the flock and gave her a warm quiet place to rest.
Today she ate some yogurt and hard boiled egg.
I noticed she had some soft egg shell sticking out of her vent after a bowl movement. I gently tried to ease...
Thank you for your response! Love this community!
Dandelion does seem to have improved. She is sitting on the roosting bar in her crate and has had more yogurt and part of a hard boiled egg.
I will try your trick with the water.
Warmly.
...I noticed yesterday that my usually feisty top chicken, Dandelion was not eating and was lethargic. She has minimal runny bowl movements.
I separated her from the rest of my chickens and she ate a very very small amount of yogurt.
I am hoping that she might just be very stressed from a...
My lovely White Brahma, Big Mama, has been having a very tough week. In addition to a heavy molt, she has a hard abdomen, lowered appetite, and smaller bowl movements.
I took her to the vet last week and discovered she was impacted with poop. For the past four days she has been on antibiotics...
