I've only had chickens a few years and I have never seen this till now. I've had a black Australorp hen sitting on eggs about 3 weeks. I started getting a really bad odor from the hen house. I eased the hen up only to find very rotten eggs. I moved her and cleaned the nesting box so I just...
I have had the same problem, too many rooster. Thursday (3) roosters are going to the sale. I have only (6) hens and 4 roosters of breeding age. All 6 hens have all the feathers pulled from their backs and necks. After watching the roosters would gang up and catch one hen and once one rooster...
I just went thru. this same thing as a newbi. I found that you need to leave them in the incubator for a day or two. Make sure they get out of the shell on their own. The will be running around inside the incubator. The are fine for 2 days without food or water. A great tip I was given to make...

This is the breed I got into all this for last year. As of now I still dont have any! Where is the best place to start. Is there just eggs for sell that I can hatch?
I"ve got my first hatch in my incubator. Its been 20 days and there is already a chic making noise inside. when do I open it to remove the chics? Are they ok for a day after they hatch inside the incubator?
I have my light, feeder and waterier set up waiting but I don't know how long to leave...
I feed yellow jackets to my chickens, they never seem to get stung. when the chicks see me swing the flyswatter they come running. They catch them before they can fly off. I accidentally pulled my chicken tractor over a yellow jacket nest, by the time I figured it out the chicks were feasting on...
I'm not sure about chickens but I would think a clover mix would be one of the better plants for poultry too. I know its a legume and not classified as a grass but we see it in most grasses.
Thanks a million, that is what I was hoping to hear. This might grow to be one of the old timers. I was only shocked at first because I thought it was a new injury. I feel much better about it now!
