We woke up to this today. Haven't dealt with it before. What do we do to help her? There is plenty of room for her to escape during the day. I think we need to open the coop doors earlier in the morning now that it's lighter earlier.
Sorry for the late response. Wow, 8 years! We've researched age of chicken but never got a good sense on how old the ladies actually get. We got a white and beige colored silkie. Our ladies are just about a week and a half now, with the exception of the Barred Rock who is 2.5 weeks. They are...
This is our second time with baby chicks. First time we had a separate room for the chicks but it is now occupied by my son. I had thought we were going to keep the chicks in the garage but I'm afraid they would get too cold at night even with a heat lamp. We currently have them in a Rubbermaid...
Thank you. I think you are right. We watched them all for a while yesterday and the other birds are now bullying her a bit. She is staying to herself. Do you think adding new birds would help? Or would they just create a third pack of birds?
We have a 3+-year-old Barnevelder chicken. She is done molding for the year. She also recently lost her sister chicken to infection.
A few weeks ago her behavior changed. She will not come down off the roost for long periods of time. She is not nesting so I do not believe she is Broody. We have...
I tried to get better pics. The specs of dark are bigger chunks and nothing moving. We live in Washington and it's rained a bit so the dirt they are bathing is a bit moist and sticky. We also have another breed and they don't have any issues. Would mites be more at the base of the feathers?
Ok we have rats or mice and they are multiplying fast. We noticed our chicken feed being gobbled up faster than normal. My husband and I noticed small marks on the coop around entry points. We finally started to see them and they aren't too afraid of us. We just put out standard rat traps but...
We have 2 year old Barnevalders. One of them has been really puffed up and is making a constant awkward low pitch cluck. I have a video that I can send for the noise but can't upload. The following pictures are the best I could get. She laid an egg today so no egg binding. Thoughts?
Friends with chickens and vegetables: our chickens destroyed our yard over the winter. We have rocks and mulch and bark scattered all over the grass which will need to be completely redone. Do you have your chickens penned in to a separate part of your yard? We are going to create a specific...
