Questions about ingredients in Layer Pellet feed I use

I breed tropical freshwater fish in the family Cichlidae, so I am familiar with all the vitamins and minerals included in feed formulas. However, there are a couple ingredients in this one famous brand's feed I am not familiar with. Here they are, for the feed labeled "Layer Pellets". The ones...

Are store-bought poultry (chicken and turkey) fed medicated chick feed

Wasn't sure where to ask this question since there was a "General Discussion" or "General Poultry" section... Anyway...: Are store-bought poultry (chicken and turkey) fed medicated chick feed when they are chicks? Just wondering since it is recommended when you buy chicks to feed them...

Can adult turkeys eat layer feed?

When ours get older (as big as the adult hens) can they eat layer pellets? We feed BlueSeal Layer Pellets. Blueseal layer pellets have 16% protein. Right now they and the pullet chicks they are with are eating BlueSeal Chick N' Game Bird Starter/Grower Crumbles which has 22% protein. More...

    Found chicken dead this morning

Also crushed calcium chips are available in the run we throw small bucket fulls in there with the scratch ever so often. The run is wood chips with lime that was applied last spring and of course dirt. They pretty much have plenty to do out there despite the less amount of space in the winter...

    Found chicken dead this morning

It wasn't a predator... Trust me... We lock up the amish shed every single night and the caged run for the winter (since the outer run is vulnerable to hawks since the tree leaves are gone) is covered with 6mm tarp and solid wood and the fencing is steel chain link. The windows we installed...

Egg Selling Laws for New Jersey?

Found our City's code book online. There is nothing about selling eggs in there, (used the search feature on the PDF file for the word "egg"...not a thing) and the only thing I found out that prohibits roosters in my town (clerk at city hall told us roosters aren't allowed but hens are) is...

Egg Selling Laws for New Jersey?

We just have a small flock of hens in our backyard. Before we start offering eggs to neighbors for $1-2/dozen (or free...) and maybe put a sign up does anybody know if there are any laws prohibiting this? We live in a residential suburban area. The town specifically is Long Branch, NJ in...

Male or female silkies? Male or female Buff Polish?

Well the mystery is finally 100% solved with the Buff Polish... He crowed...well screeched in front of me today. For now as long as he isn't feisty, and stays relatively quiet he can stay with us. Oh, and we named him Jerry Lee Lewis...

    Stories of our escapes...

Right now we have all our chickens in a HUGE run with a 5ft fence we put up. Recently because the escapes started to occur more frequently (several times a day instead of once a week!) we had to clip the flight feathers on a few but here's my stories (sorry no pics!). We have Silver Spangled...
