Coyotes are really bad here. I have super barking dogs and that helps. A lot of the cattle farmers will get a donkey. I guess either a donkey will fight or the coyotes hate them.
I want one so bad.
I feel like I'm going to have my hands full with her.
A week ago I thought a hawk got her. I couldn't find her anywhere. She was probably under that stupid ramp trying to hatch her 20someodd unfertilized eggs. For a whole day I thought she was gone. Told the kids and all. Next day she was back...
I don't wash. If there is any solid debris I sorta pick it off. I've never gotten one really gross. I don't wash or refrigerate. At all.
I am so loath to loose all those ones I found today I think I'm going to do the float/sink test. If they do sink I think I'm gonna eat them.
I know it...
1. I require many photos of this babies riding on the mother's back. I had no idea.
2. This is so important.
3. Random chicken raising up a brood under your car and now they run wild at your place is the BEST story ever.
30/7. I thought this hen wasn't laying... apparently she's just really clever. So these 27 plus my other 3 is 30 from my seven hens today.
*smashes head on desk*
This is my third flock. My first flock all laid in the box and were normal. Second all turned out to be roosters. Every. Single. One.
This flock lays wherever they want. I have fancy next box bedding, I have fake eggs. I have boxes at different heights. They don't care. They are fairly regular...
You can for sure eat them. I eat yesterday's eggs all the time. I also don't refrigerate them.
(for fun look at my post, I just found 27 eggs from my one EE that I had missed the spot she was laying. I won't be eating eggs that were outdoors for a month, but sheesh!)
Do you have small...
My chickens are just starting to lay. It's going well, not everyone is laying yet, but I'm getting a steady 2-3 eggs a day. I'm okay with that. I did wonder when my ONE EE was going to start laying, but it's really hot here so I didn't worry.
Today I found one lone green egg in the run. How...
they look a little pointed. :( It's been so long sense I've had a hen I don't even remember. He's less rooster-ish than all the others so I hoped.
*cries forever*
