Thank you so much for checking. Unfortunately, he did not make it. I called the vet again Monday to try to bring him in, he assured me it would take about a week to see improvement. He does sometime that night. Unfortunately I think it was just too late by the time I got a vet involved. :(
Thank...
Thank you so much I may try this. I did get an antibiotic from a vet, he said it could be a full week for improvement with so much swelling. He is taking antibiotics very well & eating on his own.
I appreciate everyone’s advice & thoughts. After doing research for 2 days straight- I believe he probably has a bacterial infection from parasites. I did bathe him again, have yet to find my Vetericyn, so I may have to run out & buy some. I’ve called all 4 of our local farm stores. None carry...
I definitely think it could be an infection due to parasites. It’s crazy he was doing amazing after dewoming /delousing & all of a sudden whatever this is.
I have capsules of amoxicillin. Somewhere awhile back I had read a thread about where to order & how to use for chickens. True I don’t know...
Well, swelling is worse today. I put Vaseline on last night very thick & again this morning. If it is mites, Can I give him Ivermectin while he is taking Amoxicillin?? It makes sense to me that dusting his body they would migrate to the head & possibly overwhelm that area enough to cause swelling??
I do have some other silkie hens that I believe have some mites around the head. I have tried Vaseline for it, but it never seems to help regardless of how many days I apply it.
I agree tea tree is strong, I will try plain Vaseline & hopefully that works! Could it really be that easy?!
It would...
It was not in the eye, but the surrounding skin. It was definitely swollen before I applied the tea tree/coconut oil. It is getting worse & better at the same time. Swelling is still going up, but color may be better...? I don’t think it’s the tea tree/coconut oil, but I also have no idea what’s...
I looked up fowl pox yesterday & didn’t seem like he had the majority of those symptoms. But mosquitoes are certainly out. We’ve had a ton of rain & temps have been warm enough now. Plus we live next to a small river.
He does have some scans that have peeled off & the skin underneath looks...
Idk . I called 6 different feed stores, some more than an hour from me, asked for Tylan 50 specially, they typed it in their computer & said they did not carry it. Maybe they misspelled it...?
I do have Ivermectin & permethrin. In fact I just dipped everyone other than him a few days ago. I was...
Called all the feed stores in the area. Last store told me all otc antibiotics have been pulled several years go due to the state being afraid of over medicating. He also didn’t know of any vets treating chickens. He actually revered me to byc ! I can order online but by the time it gets to me...
As previously stated No vets treat chickens here. He did have parasites that I treated with DE & wood ash. DE was applied last night. He never scratches though there are eggs in the feather quills near the skin. There are no new ones as the ones I see are growing out. I have looked him all over...
