hens sleeping in the nesting boxes

This happened to me also, but it was before they were laying and I just closed off the nesting boxes. It worked really well. Now that it has gotten a little colder, I have a few that want to try again. When I go out to put them to bed, I take them out and place on the roosting bars. Always...

Is is possible to stop them from laying their eggs in the yard?

Thanks for the help. I have noticed that most of the laying is finished by 3. I did not keep those eggs. Next time I will use the sink and float test. Thanks for the tip.

Is is possible to stop them from laying their eggs in the yard?

My hens have a run and free range when I am home. I just found a henmade nesting box in the lower branches of the arborvitae tree. There were 7 eggs! No wonder my egg count was down. How do I get them to lay in the coop and not in the yard?

nesting boxes, amt of eggs changes per day

You were so right. We found 7 eggs today under/in the arborvitae tree. That's where the eggs have been. Makes me wonder where else they are.

    sleeping in the nesting boxes

My chickens, which aren't laying yet, are sleeping in the nesting boxes and not on the roosting bars. Do I need to be concerned or will they figure it out that it's for laying eggs?
