Hi, stopped by your diary. Very cute idea. I’m sorry for your losses. We had a lot of predators the last couple of years that we were in NH. We chose to pen the chickens where we are now. There are some easy options for chicken tractor pens that allow you to move them around every day to get...
Thanks everyone. I have raised up and sold a batch of Sussex before back in the day but this is my first time raising them to keep. I wanted a good dual purpose breed with decent camouflage but still a little flashy, the Speckled Sussex fit the bill perfectly.
Trish, that is a digital art...
Its been “a minute” since I was an active member here and a lot has changed. We moved to a new state (from Southern NH to Central NY), and it took a few years, but this spring we got to add chickens back to our lives. We currently are growing out 19 Speckled Sussex with the intention to keep 12...
Thanks for the heads up on Slates, lol. I love the Porters ones, I just don't know that I want 15 turkeys. Will have to see if someone would split an order with me locally or something.
And, man! Just occurred to me that chickenstock is on the one weekend I won't be around to go. Will be leaving the day before for a week at our time share in NH. Dang.
My one and only turkey I have had was because I spotted him at a chickenstock. Fought myself all day over it and as we were packing up for the afternoon I couldn't just go and no one else had bought him. Had to buy a large dog carrier in the TSC that we were using the parking lot of ($40) and...
If you can't feel a break he may have dislocated it. Not sure what the best way to relocate it into the joint is without x-ray or some other ability to scan but I'm sure someone could advise on that.
Thanks for the welcome :) I've been on BYC a long time (I noticed today my join date was 2008!) and had a variety of different chicken breeds. Just when I was getting serious about the thought of really breeding I had a bad car accident and it knocked me down more than a few pegs and the flock...
So... technically not a NYer, yet. Hubby and I close on a house near Oswego on the 25th of this month (yes an odd day but we do have our reasons). We want to add back chickens and probably some other stuff too but one step at a time. Posting here so I can start networking a bit. Looking for...
So, I'm moving to upstate NY in about a month and I would like to add a flock of turkeys to the mix maybe late summer. I want something that is appealing to me to look at but is also tasty, cold hardy, able to free range well if I choose (we will have 22 acres) and will breed well and lay a...
Sadly I cannot recall off hand. That was a long time ago now (2010). I believe we ended up cleaning his wounds and covering with bag balm until they healed but I'm not 100% sure
This is a recently proposed ordinance for keeping of "Fowl" in our tiny rural town, population less than 3,000! Pay attention because if this passes here it will make it all that much easier to pass in towns all over. If it can happen in this little tiny quaint town it can happen anywhere!
We fully intend that the trapped raccoons will not be leaving the property. I do love animals, but I need to protect my (now very small) flock and in New England I think it's pretty safe to say that there really aren't too many places you could relocate a raccoon without making it someone...
