NY chicken lover!!!!

What type do you have I have decided that I am going to do them have the one coop that has an enclosed run that I don't use as my birds free range but I can put these guys in there?

Would love some eggs to hatch if you have any

You could put a ton of them in a coop - they technically only require one square foot per bird. Just be careful not to step on them, lol. I raise jumbo pharaoh coturnix, and I will have eggs if you'd like some :)

I would love some and yeah can put a bunch in this one it is 12' wide by 12' deep and 6 foot tall (might actually be bigger but too cold to go and measure it LOL) with a completely enclosed run used to have some chickens in there but moved them out back and let them all free range.

My one and only turkey I have had was because I spotted him at a chickenstock. Fought myself all day over it and as we were packing up for the afternoon I couldn't just go and no one else had bought him. Had to buy a large dog carrier in the TSC that we were using the parking lot of ($40) and paid $40 for my big beautiful Royal Palm tom. Introduced him to my large coop and the chickens beat him into a corner so bad he was afraid to move so I had to move him into a small pen and walk him on a dog harness for exercise while I started building a larger pen because he was not the docile friendly type. He got away from me one morning in May when the wild hens were yelping off in the distance tried to catch up to him but he disappeared never to be seen again. Normally I would have done far more research about a new critter before bringing one home and had a back up plan already in place if plan A failed but I knew little about Turkeys and just saw big beautiful bird I had to have. Also it's good to note that having a brand new half feral tom with no hens of his own and wild hens nearby looking for love is just dumb. Serious lapse in judgement on my part. I have often wondered where he went. Did someone catch him or did he get nabbed by predators? Big white turkey sure does stick out in the New Hampshire woods. Maybe the wild toms beat him down. Didn't see any wild Narragansett looking birds in the following years so I'm sure he didn't get with the ladies. All in all it was an expensive lesson in stupidity on my part. I have since learned to be far more realistic about the limits of what is appropriate to take home.

It might also help that I have (at least for now) resolved to have only one type of chicken, one variety of one breed. Mainly because hubby gets very attached to certain chickens and gets upset when we lose one of his favorites to a predator or such. He is less likely to notice subtle differences in feather patterns so he does not get as attached to one or two when they all look mostly the same. I like to free range my birds a lot and some loss to predators is to be expected so this will help with the problem. LOL. I will miss having my rainbow chicken coop but not the "So-and-so didn't make it back to the coop, get the flashlights, we need to find her!" thing.

Bielefelders are not really that hard to find but they are very costly usually. Hatching eggs are going for $20 or more per egg from a lot of breeders. Just a bit more than I'm prepared to spend just now, especially since I want more than say 6 birds, lol.

I love that the house we will be getting has an old stone basement which is perfect to double as a root cellar! They just don't make them like that anymore. Also beneficial is that the entire upstairs has been redone so the old stone basement but 200 amp electrical and modern heat and plumbing.

And, man! Just occurred to me that chickenstock is on the one weekend I won't be around to go. Will be leaving the day before for a week at our time share in NH. Dang.

Things I need or want

Does anyone on here make Signs I need a sign for Eggs and then I need a business sign has to be 2 sided plus another sign two sided for the Feed.

Also does anyone on here make there own bath bar soap I am wanting to try that next but need someone to point me in the right direction for the best place to get supplies.

Last Thing for now is fruit trees I want to get some fruit trees planted this summer figure if anyone on here has any they are looking to sell it would help them out compared to me going to a nursery and getting them.

Nutty - I bought mine from Millers nursery (now part of Starks). They had quite a selection of 'old time' trees that are hard to find now. Prices were around $25-30/3yr tree. They are very healthy looking. If they can survive the snow & deer I think they will survive most anything!!

Jungs seed and tree catalog has about the best selection I've ever saw for fruit trees, old breeds. We ordered a bunch from gurneys when they do the spend $50 get $50 free, four trees for the price of two. Burgess might not have the best quality but their prices are good. We got two bartlett pear and two yellow transparent apple trees from them. They were short, but stocky and a lot of branches. Their blueberry bushes were pathetic, but they are growing. We got a bunch of awesome blueberry bushes from HomeDepot late in the season on sale a few yrs. ago.I've been wanting to get some hardy kiwi vines but I keep putting it off, maybe this spring.

I can't remember the original source of the laundry soap I make but I am sure if you look up laundry sauce you will come up with it but for 2 quarts you need 1 bar felts napa, chop bar up and put half in each jar add about 2 cups boiling water and let dissolve over night, then add 1/2 cup each washing soda and borax top with more boiling water about 1 1/2 inches from top, then attach blender base and puree till it looks like mayo, use 1 tablespoon per load, I have made a 3 gallon batch in a 5 gallon bucket with a drill paint stirer attachment

We use this recipe for our detergent http://www.motherearthnews.com/diy/natural-laundry-soap-ze0z1308zcalt.aspx

I use a bar of Dr Bronners Lavender or citrus and grated in my food processor.

My friend has bought from Welcher Nursery (finger lakes I think) in the past. Good trees for cheap. I have been debating between them and St Lawrence Nursery in Potsdam.
Do you add vinegar to your laundry mix ?
This says not a good idea..

I just use Arm & Hammer Liquid Detergent ...you dont have to use as much as it says ..
