During the summer my girls lay off laying because of the heat. The last few days have ranged from 103 to 108. We have a little pool for them, overhead mister, a fan in their coop and I freeze gallon jugs to put in their water. They are still having a hard time. I feed them watermelons and...

    Heat Exhaustion in Texas

Texas has been in the 105 to 108 range. My little bantam rooster was acting just fine during the day and when we went to tuck them in for the night my husband found him on the ground with ants on him. We brought him in and have been nursing him back to health. We have been giving him water with...

We have 5 new chicks not even 24 hours old from an incubator. We also have a broody hen sitting on more eggs that should hatch anytime. The hen went broody right after we set our eggs. Could we place the new chicks in with the broody hen? Would she adopt them? I didn't know if she would...

Over 24 hrs. should I help her?

I took her out and gently removed the stuck membrane. She slipped out of the shell as I was doing it. Now she is back in the incubator all curled up. I hope I did the right thing. I didn't want to do harm. :(

We started our eggs in the incubator on January 14th, but the little peeps haven't come out yet. I candled them quickly this morning and at least one of them was still moving. We thought they would have hatched by now. Do you think they will hatch? Is it unusual for them to go past their...

    Eye Injury

This morning as I was cleaning out my coop I found a trail of feathers. So probably something did get my precious bird. I is good to have closure. I was afraid she got sick and I wasn't paying attention. Although that means we need to be on alert more. Thanks again for your help.

    Eye Injury

Thank you for being so concerned, but she past away during the night. She was such a pretty sweet girl. My little daughter ask about her this morning. We told her right away. Her comment was, "She is all healed up now." We can't ask for more than that.
