This is my first time hatching eggs in an incubator and we used the eggs from our own hens. We thought we had all barred rock because they look that way (one of our hens is larger than the other two but look just the same) but evidently that is not the case because four turned out yellow and...

So I am new to incubating chicks our first time. I am wondering if I should use the thermometer that I have on the wire part of the incubator or whether I should use the number on the thermometer that is on top of my eggs? I have one that reads on the wire at @ 99' and then the one on my eggs...

So I am a newbie and still learning, I noticed a couple of days ago that my rooster has black and a couple white spots near tip of crown. He is quite large and is eating and acting fine. My hens look okay and are laying. Any ideas? Thanks!!
