I will also be using safe-guard for my chickens. I will follow the recommendation of 1/2cc for standards.
My question is, can I take the 1/2cc (dose per bird) and drop it of a piece of bread for each chicken to eat individually? (I have three) or will this somehow change it's potency...
Hey all,
The chicks in the picture are about 4 weeks old. Mom is taking them up towards the roost bar. In my hen house, I have a 6"wide plank that sits in front of the roast bar. That is where mom is taking them to sleep. I'm worried that they may fall off the plank in the middle of the night...
Thanks everyone. This is all good info!
But change of plans;
I actually found a place a couple of miles away that has fertile eggs from pure breeds. I bought 6 eggs. Some RIRs. Silver laced Wyandottes. Buff orpington and an eagle egg. Just kidding about the eagle. I forgot what the sixth egg...
Hello all.
I was not sure as to where to post this question, so I will try here.
We have had our own hens and eggs now for almost 2 years.
Besides freshness and chicken feed quality, is there any difference between commercial and backyard eggs?
My wife has recently taken on a negative...
Nice writeup chickenwhisperer.
But I will pass on your video I believe what you are saying is true, but most people don't want to take any chances. It's a mental thing too. Most pesty insects that widows control usually can't harm us, compared to what the widow could do.
Thanks everyone. Makes me think that perhaps the 1 year old hen I lost a few months ago could have been bitten? Not sure what the symptoms are but she was sick (weak and tired) for 2 days before she died. The others are fine. I only have 4 hens and try to take good care of them.
I will go...
Hello,
I went into the coop tonight to check on my chicken door and saw a black widow very near where my chickens roost.
My question is, will the black widow have any reason to bit a chicken while sleeping?
Ive researched other posts but really have not found this answer.
Thanks!
Bob
I only wish that I could raise animals for food also, and not be such a wimp and feel sorry for them or become attached to them.
I am a 45 year old male and have had a problem with killing any animal that has NOT threatened me, my family or property (as long as it does not suffer). When my 3...
Hello,
I use gp poultry supplement in the drinking water. I was wondering if anyone out there would know what the shelf life would be of this supplement. (Probably the same as any other) I have had my bottle for over a year now and I keep it in the shaded coop but it does get warm in there...
Yes, I keep the ground wet so they can dig a "cool" hole the next day. But it would seem that they would be afraid to step into anything that contains water. How did you do that?
I just lost my EE tonight. She got sick or something within 2 days. She is one of my 4 pet hens, which are all different breeds. I love them all but my brown/buff EE was my favorite. She was shy but was very different than the others. Never got broody on me, but she lived to be 1.5 years only. I...
