    Premature molting :( help

I live in central VA, and we recently had about 3 weeks straight of rain. This meant a whole lot of cloud coverage, and consequently loss of daylight. As it turns out, this weather event has triggered fall molting (loss of flight feathers) in at least half the flock. Because we are about to go...

will Cayuga mixes lay black eggs?

I have about 8 Cayuga eggs being incubated right now -- all eggs were shades of gray, so I know they came from my Cayuga ducks...however the drakes that fertilized them could be runners, Cayuga, or KC's. Do you think the offspring of the mixes have the potential to lay black eggs? I would think...

Adult Gander has droopy wings, what causes this?

Ian, what was the outcome of your goose? I'm having the same issue with one of mine now.

if anyone was curious how she looks now :) she looks kind of stout only because her neck is a little tucked in.

    Purchased ducks won't lay

Hi all, thanks again for the responses. JUST to follow up, the ducks started laying anout 4-5 days after my first post :D In a somewhat unrelated note, I think one of the white layers that hatched on April 20th is starting to lay, too! Hopefully it won't be long now until they all start... Cheers!

    Purchased ducks won't lay

I knew there would be an adjustment period but just figured 2-3 weeks max *face palm* thank you!

    Purchased ducks won't lay

I purchased 2 buff females about 3-4 weeks ago. The seller says they were 6 months old and already laying. They are in with my flock of 51 ducks and 5 drakes, could it be a group mentality thing? Like they'll start laying when the others do? The others are about 12 weeks old (white layers...

    small Cayuga

Sorry for the delay! We had an open house at our farm this past saturday and hve been super busy preparing for it. Anywho, here are the best shots i could get on my phone. I'll try to get more later that are of better quality, especially since poor Sweet Pea's face is cut off at the edge of the...

    small Cayuga

Just thought I'd update :) Sweet Pea is doing just fine. She's still smaller than the rest (about 2/3 their size) but acts just like the rest of them now. I'm hoping she continues to be fine and right now I have no reason not to believe that :) pictures upon request lol

Soft shelled eggs for days in a row

I know this is a late response but I'm wondering how your problem is going, or if it's resolved...? Also, i found this on the duck treats sticky and wondered if it applied to you: "There is debate about whether or not spinach should be given to ducks. Spinach can reduce the amount of calcium...

Nervous duck mommy--first time out tonight!

Thanks to you both--wish i saw these responses before morning lol--but it IS morning now, and all 56 birds are just fine :) they were all snuggling comfortably and are currently choosing to hang out in their temporary outdoor run. The hardware cloth is going up over the chicken wire today so I...

Nervous duck mommy--first time out tonight!

If someone could ease my fears, please do! The girls (and a couple boys) are out for the first time tonight in their duck house. It's fully framed/wood and on a concrete slab. The only cracks are those between the door and the frame, which are only about a half inch to 3/4 inch wide, but have...

    small Cayuga

Not stupid :) but I doubt it considering it's a Metzer purchase, and they don't breed East Indies. Plus I would hope they wouldn't make a mistake like that :idunno

    small Cayuga

Ikr?! There is another one close to her size, but not quite as small. That one is much more spunky though. We did their first swim today and Sweet Pea did fine, just as well as the rest wading around and washing up (we had a lot of "darters" but I didn't see her doing any of that). Guess that's...
