    They choose to sleep outside...

I have a similar problem. I have 10 hens and only 5 go in to roost. Others stay underneath the coop in a corner. I locked all of them in the coop for several days. One by one they started going in at night but has stopped at 5.

Pros and Cons of Free Ranging

I can agree with that. I've free ranged most of the time and lost plenty of chickens.

Supposed to be marans from a tractor store..three pullets & a roo. Thoughts on if it is true marans

They don't look like Marans to me. I've had some in the past. Mine did not have feathered legs either but there are both varieties.

    Double yolk

Just got my first double yolk today. Very excited. It weighs in at 3.8 ounces. Not sure who laid it since I have a mixed breed of ten hens. I hope I get more.

    New flock.

I recently lost all 5 of my chickens in 1 night due to predator. So I purchased 10 hens from someone. I got them about 8 o'clock at night and put them directly in the coop. Some even on the roost. Since then the hens won't even go into the coop or lay any eggs. They eat and drink OK in the run...

    Plymouth Rock Contest-End Date: October 20th, 2018

Need a telephoto lens for a picture of my 2. Can't get within 20 feet of them. Only had them 2 weeks and they are skidish.

Teaching to roost on the bar

I have the same concern except 2 of my 3 hen just lay in the nest box. They're not broody, just stubborn. have to move them every night. I cover sounds like the idea.

    First eggs!

I understand. When i was getting a variety of egg colors, it was fun. I've since lost my color producers and have just the standard brown eggs from golden comets that as you say, lay like machines.

    Red Sex-link Hybrids?

Same thing here. I bought 3 hens 7 months old just starting to lay. Was told by the owner they are red sex links. His uncle was there when i picked them up. He said something about golden comets. Either way, I've had them 6 days and they started laying the second day. Very docile. They are going...
