One of my chickens died this morning (RIP Midge), but this means Marnie is now a lonely chicken. At the minute I don't plan on rescuing anymore ex batt hens due to lack of time being spent at home, but I want to do the best thing for Marnie.
Is it more kind to keep her alone and avoid the stress...
Sorry, forgot to add that she's lost a lot of weight too.
There isn't a vet near me that has the slightest idea about chickens, otherwise she would be there
A few weeks ago one of my ex-batts had sour crop. I managed to help her bring it all up and she was fine for about a week after. However, for about 2 weeks now, she has been all hunched over, lethargic and has lost most of the colour in her comb and face. She will pick at yogurt and food, but is...
Ok, so I bit the bullet yesterday and followed advice on how to make her throw up. All this black stinky mess came out of her and after a few hours, she seemed a lot perkier. She had a tiny bit of yoghurt and oil, but then it was bed time.
This morning I've checked her crop and it's still...
She does feel lighter than usual, her crop at the minute feels soft.
What is the difference between impacted crop and sour crop? I don't think I'd feel comfortable holdin her upside down to make her sick... Is there anything else I can do?
Hello,
As well as losing a chicken on Friday (RIP Madeline), Marion is now all puffed up and won't eat much.
I've brought her in out of the cold and set up camp for her under the stairs so I can keep an eye on her whilst I'm in the kitchen, and I've noticed she's started to "yawn" every few...
Thank you so much for you help and advice!
So my next questions are...
Should I leave the mash dry of mix with water? I've always mixed with water, (warm water in the winter), and never even considered leaving it dry.
Is mash or pellets better?
That's great, thank you.
I don't know if this is right or wrong, but I've been doing it for 2 years since I rescued them... they have mixed corn in a feeder all the time, then I feed them layers in the morning. Am I feeding them too much?
So I could give them some porridge?
Hi Guys,
This morning I used the last of my layers mash, and I didn't have time to go to the farm to buy some more.
I will be buying some after work tomorrow but I don't get home until around 5pm. Is there anything I can give them in the morning to keep them going?
Thank you
