I should have said ours are 11 months old. They went through a big molt in the fall. Now, suddenly all four are are dropping feathers like crazy. I’ve looked them over, no sign of bugs. So I’m at a loss.
I don’t know what’s going on. Our four Buff Orpingtons have started to lose a bunch of feathers. Its winter here in Wisconsin. We feed them Kalmbach HenHouse Reserve. They are out of the elements. I’m at a complete loss as to why they’re losing feathers.
We live in Wisconsin, close to Janesville. Anyone in the area sell Serama chicks? I’ve read that ordering Serama chicks online is not recommended, because of their tiny size. I really want some of these beautiful tiny little cuties!
We covered the “ceiling “ of our coop with hardware cloth, then we put the roof on. Our roof looks like yours. We didn’t want to take any chances with small predators crawling under those openings.

I see so many people use ash from their wood stoves and fireplace. We don’t have either, so no ash. What is a good SAFE mixture for chickens? What type of sand? What type of soil? We have a sand box, we just need to know what to put in it. Thanks in advance!

This is our setup, the coop is inside the barn. We live in Southern Wisconsin, and it gets cold. Once it’s warm enough, and the chicks are feathered / old enough, they will go in the coop. They will have an outdoor run, and will spend times outside as long as weather permits.
