    Losing feathers in the winter

I should have said ours are 11 months old. They went through a big molt in the fall. Now, suddenly all four are are dropping feathers like crazy. I’ve looked them over, no sign of bugs. So I’m at a loss.

    Losing feathers in the winter

I don’t know what’s going on. Our four Buff Orpingtons have started to lose a bunch of feathers. Its winter here in Wisconsin. We feed them Kalmbach HenHouse Reserve. They are out of the elements. I’m at a complete loss as to why they’re losing feathers.

    Serama chicks

We live in Wisconsin, close to Janesville. Anyone in the area sell Serama chicks? I’ve read that ordering Serama chicks online is not recommended, because of their tiny size. I really want some of these beautiful tiny little cuties!

To use hardware cloth or to not to

We covered the “ceiling “ of our coop with hardware cloth, then we put the roof on. Our roof looks like yours. We didn’t want to take any chances with small predators crawling under those openings.

I know what it is, it’s Zeolite. But is it really safe to use for chickens? Do you add it to the bedding? Should it only be used it a well ventilated area? Thanks in advance!

    Dust bath mixture

I see so many people use ash from their wood stoves and fireplace. We don’t have either, so no ash. What is a good SAFE mixture for chickens? What type of sand? What type of soil? We have a sand box, we just need to know what to put in it. Thanks in advance!

    Field mice

They will have an outside run for sunshine and fresh air! We just figured with the cold Wisconsin winters, they would be much better with the coop inside the barn. They will be protected from the elements, and predators. I just don’t think we can keep the field mice out. Hopefully the...

    Field mice

Sure! Since it’s going be inside of our barn, weather won’t be an issue. But I’m hoping it holds up well with the chickens.

    Field mice

This is our setup, the coop is inside the barn. We live in Southern Wisconsin, and it gets cold. Once it’s warm enough, and the chicks are feathered / old enough, they will go in the coop. They will have an outdoor run, and will spend times outside as long as weather permits.

    Field mice

Not really, they are very small. They can fit through a dime hole.
