Thank you for all of your suggestions. I knew they needed humidity, I just had no idea how much and I had no way of even measuring the humidity. Yikes.
Here is the update.
We brought the hen that was sitting on the eggs inside and put her in the brooder with the eggs. When I checked on her...
I have a broody hen sitting on 5 eggs. She left the nest today to help raise 3 recently hatched peeps. I haven't seen this hen off the nest in the last 18 days, she decided to take off on day 19. The 5 eggs were cold to the touch when I discovered them. One of them has a pip, one of them I can...
I've got three. All of them mixed hens. They are all sitting on eggs. Big Sexy my first time broody that was hatched here last summer is on 2 eggs(more mixes). The other 2 have 9 eggs between them. I would really like to get some eggs shipped to me of something pure bred that I don't have here...
Cute chicks and ducklings.
Our Ideal chicks came a day earlier than expected, too! I was running around getting things ready after I got a call from the PO yesterday morning
I really don't think this is going to be as easy as I am fooled into thinking this is right now. It can't be. I've heard how difficult it is to sex silkies until they either lay an egg or crow. I've noticed some big differences in the 5 I have though. Tell me what you think.
1. Grey Silkie...
I should not even be asking but how much would shipping be for zip 17061?
and would it be possible to get a dozen assorted from the:
Naked Neck Frizzle pen
Frizzle pen
blue, black, splash Ameraucana hens and black Am' roo
Is the hen ok!??
I am not even sure which one laid it! I have 2 pullets that have been laying since Feb. They are all acting normal as far as I can tell.
I am going to have to keep an eye out for those albino aliens.
This fooky looking clear yolk came out of a weird small, skinny brown egg :o. I've never seen a clear yolk before, and what is all that stuff hanging out in the yolk? It is really weird. Anyone ever see anything like this before? Needless to say, we didn't eat it.
I wasn't going to do it. I wasn't. We have 26, I think, 6-7 week old chicks right now with 12 more day olds due to arrive next Friday. So why, why are those 2 broodys out in the house so hard to resist? Why? I let the one hen have 3 eggs today. I told myself...it is only 3 more chicks, what is...
I used to live in Palmyra! I would be interested in the Barred Rocks. I am going to be in the area this weekend. How much are you asking? Would this weekend work for you?
The same thing happened to us when we separated the geese/ducks and the chicks. Our confused one was a little banty chick! We moved the ducks/geese to a brooder right next to the chicks, they can still see each other. That little banty ran up and down the brooder side peeping as loud as it...
How fun they look! I love looking at pictures of chicks that are just a little older than mine. Mine are 2 weeks all from Ideal. I see next week we will hit the really fun awkward ugly stage. I can't wait!
