Rumpless? And who's the one crowing?! They were guaranteed to be girls!

Being rumpless can be just a genetic defect. I have a Welsummer, called Bumless George, who is rumpless.

    Bumless George

I do hope so! What worries me is that I can't feel a parson's nose thingy, pygostyle I think is the proper term.

    Bumless George

I posted about this bird in the General FAQ forum but have had zero response, so I thought that I would try here. This Welsummer chick is coming up to 9 weeks old, the pic shows him with his normal tailed brother. Bumless George, as the name implies, seems to have no tail. How common is this...

    Rumpless welsummer?

I have a couple of Welsummer chicks, 8 weeks old now. One still has no tail feathers at all. I will post a pic once it is light enough outside. Is it possible for a Welsummer chick to be rumpless. How common are defects like this?

    Araucana thread anyone?

I agree with you. They are much more difficult to judge than my Marans. I don't know how long it will be before the Araucanas start getting their proper male plumage but I wish that they would hurry up.

No, the partridge. Is it partridge, red blue?

Thank you for your replies. I do hope that you are correct, only time will tell. I suspect that the black is a cockerel. It does a lot of face offs with the partridge one. Is that the correct term? What do you call his colour?

    Araucana thread anyone?

Thank you Ashburnham and Chickengr. The black one has a long tail, it doesn't show well in my photo, it is also quite big. I hope that there is at least one pullet among them but I am not convinced.

    Araucana thread anyone?

It may still be too early to tell with these three chicks, they are ten weeks old and I am starting to think that they are all cockerels :( Blue, black and partridge ( I am not sure if that is the correct term for this colouring as there are blue feathers coming in)

    Possible egg colours

Thank you for that. I am interested in breeding some olive eggers, so that information will be helpful.

    Possible egg colours

He is in the middle of a moult just now and looking pretty scruffy. This photo is from when I first got him and it isn't the best photo in the world. He is a British Araucana. 4

    Possible egg colours

Thank you, that's good to know. I wonder if her eggs will become more green looking as she lays more eggs because the amount of coating will change. This is her very first egg and it is almost blue. It will be fun to see what happens. I am guessing that if she was mated to, for example, a...
