Whats the weirdest thing your chickens have eaten or tried to eat??

Yeah, ours don't like strawberries either, or the plants. We had some old plants in our garden boxes that I let them scratch in. They dug up the plants and berries and left them there. They LOVE old cooked brown rice.

    Hot Chickens !

It just got hot here in CA, and I'm going to try wetting the ground. They weren't happy about me wetting the inside of the coop. I know when they come out after I've watered they roll in the wet dirt.

Blue Jay v.s. 9 week old Ameraucana

Last week, we had a blue jay try to make off with one of our chicks, which was bigger than he was. We scared him off. Today, he tried again, only this time he got the worst of it. He landed next to the biggest girl in the yard, and she pounced on him, held him down, and pecked him several...

    Strange head shaking and bobbing

Okay, so yesterday (5/28/12), one of our 8 week old Buff Orpington's started acting strangely. She would raise her head up and kind of dance her head and neck around like she had something stuck. At first, we thought it was funny, and then decided that something was wrong. There was not much...

    Kids and Chickens!

Here is our youngest daughter Beth, holding Delicate Flower, 1 of 3 Ameraucana's. Our two girls LOVE the chicks and want to hold them constantly like they are baby dolls. The chicks struggle at first, but give in, and submit to being petted and loved on. Adorable.

Review by '' on item 'Orpington'

We have just started with ours, but they are pretty darn cute. they love to roll in the dirt, and eat flies. They also hang out together with the Ameraucana's we have, and sleep together all cuddled up. If we move them to the coop from the backyard, and leave one, that one starts crying for...

What flooring should i use in my run??

I'm using dirt. Here is what I did. Concrete floor, then tar paper for water barrier, then tarp that runs up the sides about 12 inches. I used screws to hook the tarp eyes over to hold the tarp up. Then poured dirt on to the floor. As the girls poop, I add more dirt, up to about 6 - 8...

    Rapid breather

Hey there, so I have a 1 1/2 week old Ameraucana chick that was added to our 5 girls after we lost one. She seems to breathe really fast, and sneezes. The others sneezed too when we got them after a couple of days, and it lasted for a couple of days. The older 5 have stopped sneezing. I...
