    "debris" inside the egg??

I'm having the same thing happen with my eggs. Most of my "customers" don't care, but a few might be a little grossed out by this? Does anyone know what it is, or what causes it? Can it be prevented?

How do you clean your eggs after gathering and before refridgeration?

I think it I ever got an egg as dirty as some of those I would just chunk it.....so gross. Mine come out pretty clean, I just chunk them in the fridge.....I don't wash them before I sell them either, I just explain to everyone (they're all friends, not the general public) how to wash them...

How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

We've been getting anywhere from 3-5 eggs a day from 13 hens...they're young (just 22 weeks) and I'm sure they're not all laying yet. I usually get one or two in the morning and then 2-3 throughout the rest of the day....HOWEVER, this morning I went out at 830am (about and hour earlier than...

    What age do RIRs lay?

Our RIRs were 19 weeks and 2 days when we got our first egg. We're up to about 5 a day from 13 girls now.....so they're not all laying yet, but I'm happy with what I get....

We need an Australian name for our Australian Cattle Dog... *PIC!*

I don't have any name ideas.....I'm horrible at naming things (my cats are Big Kitty and Bitty Kitty) but that is one adorable puppy.

    Crazy Kitten

We have two indoor/outdoor cats too.....our black one (Big Kitty) loves the chickens, and the feeling is mutual. When they free range he just sits in the middle of them and they walk all over him. Ifthe chickens are in their run, he strolls around the perimeter and they follow him from the...

Chicken Names- whats your chickens name?

I haven't named all 15 yet.....they're all RIRs and I have named the ones I can tell apart...... Wyatt and Marshal are the roosters, and I have one hen that is lighter colored than the rest and I call her PYT (Pretty Young Thing....yes, from the Michael Jackson song). The rest I just call...

Adding chickens to my current flock

Sorry I don't have any tips for you....I looked at the thread because we're about to add more chickens to our flock too. Just wanted to say, you said you had one RIR hen.....you rooster looks like mine, and they're RIR too. I could be wrong, but that's my opinion. Good luck integrating!!

What do you charge for a dozen?

We took a poll at work (since those people will be the ones buying most of our eggs) and everyone said they would be willing to pay $3 to $3.50 for a dozen eggs. So we're going to charge $3. We told everyone back in Oct. when we got the chicks that we needed egg cartons and everyone (not just...

    Post your FIRST EGG pics!

I have been MIA for a few months......just been busy....I have been lurking though. Anyway, my girls laid their first egg today. I don't have the slightest clue who laid it.....they're all RIRs and we have 13 hens, so who knows. Hope there will be more soon. The picture should be clickable.

Got the run and door done

Quote: My dad tested it with about 3-4 pounds before giving it to us, and it worked fine. Our door is made with a 15in x 20in piece of cement backerboard (we wanted something sturdy), it's heavier than plywood. We were worried that the timer wouldn't have enough "uumph', but it worked just...
