Any references for a good feed mill (not just a feed store that styles itself a feed mill) near Boone, NC?

    Auburn Javas?

If you wish, I can send you the Auburn Standard. It was developed by Lyel Behl and some other AJ breeders who were working to resurrect the breed. I also live in WNC. Lost Province area.

How much fermented feed per bird?

While fermentation does increase the bioavailability and digestabilibty of the feed and eventually decrease the volume of dry feed used by 1/3-1/2… for me the biggest value is the fact that they are forced to eat everything in the feed. I am starting with Javas, specifically focusing on a color variation that was thought to be extinct -- Auburn. I got 40 eggs mailed from the premier Auburn breeder, Lyle Behl of Illinois. Plastic covered run shows condensation

Yes, ventilation, ventilation, ventilation. While you want to avoid direct drafts, chickens need much less protection from the cold than one would think. The wet/humidity is a much bigger hazard to their health. And it will also lead to frostbite on combs, wattles, and feet/toes.

    Laying early?

Oh yeah :) I call those Maiden Eggs....but my question... these pullets are barely 12 weeks old... pullets from the exact same breeding but 3 weeks older have not laid yet. So....could this truly be from the 12 wk old pullets? both parent breeds started at more like 16+ weeks. IF it is from...
