My blind hen ventures just a little to far today and fell from the coop. It startled the other girls and she was pecked a few times. She has just a couple of scrapes. Do I do anything for them? (PS - she is molting and looking a bit haggard)
You mentioned giving her vitamins once before. I have been giving her vitamin water, wondering if there is anything more I can do to help her. I would love it if her sight came back. But after 3 weeks I think it is they way it will be
I know we can put a crate inside. A wall is also possible, but would be concerned about the exit or entry when open. (Really a newbie - maybe not something to worry about). The coop is 6foot square. And 4 foot high. With a side area for nesting.
Not great photos...hopefully you’ll get the...
I do not have a separate coop or run for them. I think we could fashion a run easily enough, but I’m concerned about the night time. Can I let them sleep together?
Newbie here! I have 4 hens (1 with special needs) they have been together for the past year and are about 1.5 years old. My friend recent lost his home in our local wildfire. His chickens were untouched by the fire. His flock is also 4 and same aged (1.5 years old). Any advice on how to...
I have the same thing happening with one of my hens. What is Emerald? I would love for this to turn around, but I fear it’s just going to stay this way for her. 😩
She really isn’t doing any better. Her vision is not back. The other hens have started really picking on her, which breaks my heart. I have her in a dog crate with food and water. Letting her sleep in the coop at night when the others don’t seem to bother her. The smaller confined area...
Oh, I didn’t think you were accusing me. I had just never thought of it. I wish I could send you the video. She really has no ability to find her food or water. I’m trying to associate sound with water container and food dish. She is staying inside the coop.o we have food and water in there...
Poisons!? We let the girls out I. Our yard. We have not used anything in our yard in the past 2 years. We have had the hens for a year. The only thing I could think is we have black bark in our yard. I would think that could potentially be toxic, but it has been there longer than the...
When we move our hand toward her head, she doesn’t move or blink. She is pecking at the air. She uses her beak and extended her next to find “safe spaces” like a wall or a tree to be next to. As well as to find water and food.
I don’t have any photos of her eyes, but the appear normal...
Is it possible my 1 year old sexlink has gone blind?
Over the past several weeks we have watched one of our hens behavior change. I would even say that two weeks ago my husband was convinced that she gone blind. I don’t believe him I went looking for every other possibility - sour crop...
