    Help! Scalped Chicken

Thanks, There hasn't been any problems with the other chick. She's half her size so I though that it would be fine. Much better than leaving the little one to face 4 big chickens on her own. I have some idea of what may have happened. This morning I found some blood on the wall of the chicken...

    Help! Scalped Chicken

She seems to be going well. She was eating and walking around and pecking at the grass. I didn't see here drinking, but I expect she is.

    Help! Scalped Chicken

Earlier to day I found my 13 week old chicken with the shin and feathers from the top of her head missing. She doesn't seem to be continuing to bleed, but I don't know what to do to prevent infection. The only antiseptic we have are Dettol and various creams. I tried to put some honey on as I...

Strange Small Chick: Why hasn't she grown?

Thanks for that. She is eating and drinking normally. She seems to get cold easily though. Do you think that she will eventually grow up and start laying when she is older? Is there another thread where it would have been better too ask this question?

    Cockerel or Pullet

Mother Father They were six weeks old when these were taken. I can find a more recent picture of the father if that would be helpful. The chick's comb was red fairly early. Earlier than It's half sister at least but she's a bit strange.

    Cockerel or Pullet

I've got a twelve week old AndalusianXAraucana Chooklet. Do you think it looks like boy or girl? It fought a bit with its brother (I wasn't sure about that one either) wich sadly died a week ago, but not much. Here's a picture of its mother now. I'll put some picture of it's parents when...

Strange Small Chick: Why hasn't she grown?

Hi, We have a couple of chicks that one of our hen's raised. They are 12 weeks old now and one of them is really small. Her feathers have developed properly either. She is an AraucanaXBarred Rock. The other one is an AraucanaXAndalusian. Don't if the second one is male of female. Here is a...

Six weeks old: Boys or Girls?

They just spent their first night outside in the new chicken house. They seemed quite happy this morning. I put our old chicken in with them and that went well. I'm afraid it went a bit too well. She completely ignored them. she seems to spend a lot of time sitting around. She is still eating...

Six weeks old: Boys or Girls?

In Australia, Araucanas are not rumpless. From Wikipedia: A major difference in international perception of the Araucana breed is the existence of a tail. The exact physical description of the bird varies, with the North American varieties being rumpless and without a tailbone, the British...

Six weeks old: Boys or Girls?

Actually both of the roos are pretty shy. The Araucanas and Rocks actually belong to my brothers. It isn't very clear in the pictures, but Dot's comb is slightly pinker than Dash's. also Dot's barring is slightly stronger, but there isn't much difference.

Six weeks old: Boys or Girls?

Here are some pics of our chicks. They're six weeks old now. With a couple the gender is obvious but some are hard to tell. Stripey (renamed Ugly) the Double-laced Barnevelder. He´s obviously a boy. Also he is really scared of people. Niña the Andalusian. She is the friendliest of the chicks...

How To Humanely Euthanize A Chicken..

I have never had to kill a chicken yet. I have them act a bit odd. They will sit down or not eat much, then next thing we know they have died. One of them came and sat on the door step.

    Hi!

I wouldn't mind eating a rooster if somebody else killed it and cleaned it, but I know I couldn't do it myself. If there is only one, we might consider keeping it. I have friend who kill their chickens but they don't live very near by. Also my friend cut her finger and ended up in the emergency...

    Hi!

I'm getting them from a local breeder.:jumpy I might try getting eggs in the future if i get a broody hen, but I probably won't try mail. My only fear is that some will turn out to be roosters.
