    Chicken cancer.

Thank you, Silkie Sue, for responding. Your situation sounds very similar to our own.... and at the very least it makes me feel a bit better knowing other folks have faced such chicken mysteries before.

    Chicken cancer.

I would like to know if any of these symptoms sound familiar or if there's something more I could have done to help my hen. Read on for details and please, please share your opinions and knowledge! I have no idea what happened. ****************** 1) What type of bird , age and weight...

    Dog Attack.

Thanks! 24 hours later and the chicken is doing much better. She's moving around, eating, and drinking. Still not standing quite as tall or naturally as she did before the shake up.... but I think she's gonna be okay. Heck, I know if I was grabbed and shaken upside down, I'd need a few days to...

    wheezing and shaking head?

Is there any discharge around the eyes or nose? Isolate her and watch her/the other chickens. There are a few serious chicken respiratory problems that could cause this.... but it could also be just a cold or in response to dust in the air.

    Dog Attack.

I was hoping someone could offer some good words to make me feel a bit better about this morning's misadventure. Right now I'm feeling like a terrible chicken mom. Our foster puppy grabbed one of silkies this morning and shook her pretty badly. I was able to separate the two fairly quickly...

HELP: 2nd Dead-- NOT EGGBOUND-NOT PROLAPSE- what is it?!

We had to cull our 10 month old buff brahma last week. I thought she had a prolapsed vent and was egg bound... but I'm having my doubts because I just found a 2nd hen dead in the yard. This second one was an 11 month old Amber Star, no previous medical issues. Upon examining her body--- her...

    Egg bound...prolapse....dead skin around cloaca?

After lots of reading here on the forum, I think my hen has a prolapse (fairly mild) and is egg bound. I've been treating her accordingly. However, there is some white-crumbly accumulation on the lower half of her cloaca that I am concerned about. I don't know if it's dead skin, or urates...

23,357-1=23,356 One of our hens was a roo, which just won't do in our very urban neck of the woods.

    She's A He?!

All my hens are about 10 months old and not an egg from them yet. That's not really the problem, though. The problem is that my Black Australorp (who is the dominant hen) started ....crowing?!.... this morning. It's not a real crow. But it's a crow-ish noise. This is a REAL BIG NONO as...

    Window box - nest box

Thanks for your pointers! I am thinking the fake flowers or ivy would be best-- it'll require less maintenance, will weigh much less than real flowers and soil, and would not require watering-- which might seep into the coop or nest boxes. The chickens will not be able to climb into the...

    Window box - nest box

Has anyone done a mock-up window box out of their pop-out nest box? I know it HAS to be possible. Just wondering if anyone out there has done it, and if they can post pictures before I try and tackle my own.... I'm hoping to do something like this...
