That makes me feel so much better. Thanks for the help!!! Hopefully all our girls start laying regularly soon. I really want to stop buying eggs.
..... funny thing happened. A few minutes after my original post yesterday, my son screams out, "there's an egg!!" Our Ameraucana layed her...
We were very excited that our BR gave us our first egg, but then she stopped. Her first egg came 2 1/2 weeks ago, and her second came just this morning. Is that normal?
Also, our Ameraucana is nearing 30 weeks and she is not even showing signs of laying. Shouldn't she be laying by now?
Thanks for the input, everyone!! Our girls "free-range" most days, and get scraps when available.....my boys don't leave left overs. We keep their feeding dish filled with scratch/corn. I had to build a barrier around my garden. My broccoli, lettuce and green beans were DESTROYED! Also, we...
Don't laugh!! I am nervous about eating the first egg we received from our BR, Roxy. OK, here goes....... Hmmm? Aside from the small amount of salt and butter I used, I don't taste much of a difference. In comparison to the remaining store bought eggs we have, the yolk is MUCH more...
Our Roxy's very first egg. It is smaller than I thought it would be, but it seems very healthy. The shell is hard and the egg seems heavy and dense.
I coop'd them up at 5p. yesterday afternoon. I had some early appointments and couldn't let them out until about 9:30a. this morning. I don't...
Thank you, Kelsie2290!!!!! Scary is definitely another word I'd use to describe our two older girls. The BR is very confrontational seems to want to kill me. It's like they're going through puberty. Anyway, thank you very much for the input. This chicken newbie is impatiently awaiting some...
There's some very odd goings-on with our girls this morning. Our normally quite little flock is quite loud and obnoxious!!!!
Our BR (Roxy) is VERY VERY loud and leading the riot. It's like she CONSTANTLY "whining" and clucking which is making the Americauna (Maryanne) uneasy and loud. The...
Hi, Turtleguy. Going by what I was told, ISA Browns are referred to as production browns. They are a cross between RIRs and another breed (cannot remember). They are bred for high production of brown eggs. Had I known more details before receiving them, I would have waited for the hatchery...
New to BYC, thanks for having us!! We live in Iao Valley, a beautiful and less urban area of Wailuku, Maui. Our first batch of babies arrived in May from the Asagi Hatchery on Oahu. We currently have 6 hens, two of which should be laying soon.
1 Barred Rock (Roxy) who unlike other posts...
