    Chick hernia

I should also add that there werena few times when I went to candle the eggs and found some of them had been accidentally left out of the nest. I hadn't thought it was a problem, as I had a hen once get trapped away from her eggs for a whole day and they hatched completely fine, but I guess they...

Yes, that's what I suspect might have happened :/

    Chick hernia

I wasn't assisting them, except the one in the photo, as it had died in its shell. I'll set the others up as you've said and hopefully they'll be alright

    Chick hernia

I had a hen incubating 4 turkey eggs and 4 chicken eggs (I put the chicken eggs under her a week or so later so they'd hatch at the same time). The first chick to hatch was a chicken, and seemed healthy. Later on I found it dead. The second chick to hatch had a small hernia. I patched it up and...

    Chicks with hole in abdomen

I'm not sure. I did some research and I think it might have been a hernia. I had an unrelated chick hatch yesterday with the same thing. The first chick is doing great now, though.

    Chicks with hole in abdomen

The other day, the first lot of eggs which were under one of my broody hens began to hatch. I had bought 6 purebred pekin eggs to incubate, and 3 died in the early stages of incubation whilst the other 3 developed. The first one which hatched appeared completely fine, although when I went to...

    How soon is too soon

Yeah, I had noticed they had what appeared to be weak patches in their shells the first time I candles them. I don't have an incubator, unfortunately. Thanks for the help, I'm hoping they make it to term :jumpy

    How soon is too soon

The cracks are lines, and I candles them this morning. The embryos inside were moving and very much alive. They're with bantam silkie eggs, which were put under the broody a week or so after the turkey eggs in order for them to hatch at the same time

    How soon is too soon

I have a broody incubating a batch of eggs (including 4 turkey eggs). I noticed the other day that 3 of the turkey eggs are starting to crack. They have another week before they're due to hatch. I patched them up as best I could with membrane from an egg out of my fridge and some glue (probably...

    Can fertile eggs survive thunderstorms?

She was still there, so hopefully all is good :jumpy I'm just worried because when I Googled it there was mixed reaction. Some said eggs are effected by thunderstorms, others said they wouldn't be. I guess I'll just have to wait and see

I'll go check if she's still there

    Can fertile eggs survive thunderstorms?

I was woken up just now by thunder and remembered my broody incubating a batch of eggs. As I wrong to hope that they will still hatch? Has the storm killed them?
