I named mine so I could remember their breeds...Easter Egger is Cadbury, Australorp is Waltzing Matilda, Silver laced Wyandotte is Princess (because she looks like she's dressed for the prom) and the Partridge Couchin is Shirley Partridge. We're getting two new chicks in a month...Summer the...
Yes, thank you. I did a search but nothing like that came up. I ordered my chicks tonight. Yes, I did indeed, panic. I have the page saved, printed and added to my "chicken info" folder.
Just when I was going to make a final decision on which breeds I want this Spring...you delete the chicken breed chart.
The new "breeds" page doesn't have an egg color choice to click on and when I checked on "cold", large production and layer there were no choices available.
Please bring back...
Well, here I am, brand new to being a chicken Mom! I'm excited. My 4 chicks arrive on May 19. I've ordered 1 each (female) Easter Egger, Australorp, Partridge Cochin and a Silver Laced Wyandotte. I can hardly wait to get started on this new hobby.
Here's a little info on me and my family...
I agree with Egghead, Jr. Heat isn't as important as ventilation to avoid moisture build up. While our temps don't get down below the teens...I only use a heater under the water in the coop. I do have a rope light around the inside to extend the daylight hours but it doesn't add much heat...
Here's how we deal with the "night poops". The roost is above boot trays (available at the container store) which I swap out each morning with a clean set. Even when it's snowing...this is a fast, easy way to keep the interior of the coop clean.
We just finished building our new coop but I bought the 8'X8' dog kennel/run from Lowe's last year with Winter in mind. The fitted "trucker tarp" sloughed off the snow most of the time. We get a day or two of snow; then nothing for a week or so. I did go out and use a broom stick to "help the...
The weather vane came from http://www.theweathervanefactory.com/1019_henchick.html for $99.00+
I got the plans from the internet but I didn't like the 4'X6' version because they called for an 18" door. Not nearly big enough for me. So we changed the coop to 6'X8'.
We just finished our new coop. My wonderful neighbor built it for us.
It started with a floor which is 21" off the ground so the snow build up will not effect the Girls.
Then the building began. It is 6' X 8' with a security screen door and solid door so in the hot weather I can have total...
Hey, Egg Rookie...where in Clovis foothills? I live at the top of the 4 lane, in Auberry. We're neighbors..sort of.
We have to deal with snow as we're at 4700' and we're going to build another coop in the Spring (after tax time). My Girls are in a small coop that we added an extended run to...
I have 4 hens...An EE named Cadbury; A White laced Wyandotte named Princess, because she looks like she's dressed for the ball; an Australorp named Waltzing Matilda and a Partridge Couchin named Shirley Partridge.
This way I can remember their breeds by their names.
