    Sand Question

Good Morning, We are currently using sand in our coop and we love it. We bought the sand at Home Depot and some at Lowes. The trick is to buy the tubes of "play sand". It has been cleaned, does not clump, or have small dusty type particles to bother the chickens. It would be the same type of...

    Orphingtons by the pair ?

I want to add three new hens to my flock of three. I plan to raise them from chicks. I have been told that if I want to add just one Orpington it will be picked on by the others. Sooo.... my questions are: Are Orps always at the bottom of the pecking order? Is it best to have them in pairs?

    Old Wives Tale Or Not!?

OLD WIVES TALE ?? I currently have 3 layers. I would like to add 2 more girls in the Spring. My grandmother swears that if you give your "Top of the Pecking Order," hen a tablespoon of Sherry at bedtime and then put the new chicks under her, she will accept them as her own and raise them when...

Who Is Laying The Other Brown Egg!!!

Hello, I have 3 layers. 2 of the girls have laid an egg a day since we got them. The other is a bird that should be laying white eggs. (According to the ear color rule) This chicken has not laid to our knowledge in the 4 months since we received her with the group, although I was told she was...

    Eating Eggs after Worming

Ok all, remember that there are no stupid questions... I will be worming all of my 4 girls because I have found worms in one girls poo. The question is, I know I should not eat any of the eggs for two weeks, But, can I feed the cooked eggs back to the girls? Good, Bad, Dangerous ??

    Cat Litter in coop

I have a chicken tractor with 3 hens. The roost area has a sliding drawer that pulls out of the coop for cleaning. I am wondering if it is ok to put cat litter in the bottom of this drawer and then cover the litter with pine shavings. I clean the droppings every day. Is the litter a bad idea?

One of three new transplants still not laying !

Her feathers are beautiful. I was told that they were all the same age of 10 to 12 months. Supposedly she had been a great layer at her prior home. She eats well, and seems to have not a worry on her mind.

    Newly homed birds

I have just started with three chickens that came with a chicken tractor we purchased. It has been 3 weeks and only one of the birds is laying. All three were laying before the move. Same food and tractor, different yard. There is only one nest box. Is this not enough? Any ideas?
