Frederick, MD. Welsummer Laying Hen needs new home!

Hi there, Im in Frederick MD looking to re-home my female Welsummer "Zuma". She is about 2 years old, lays a light brown spotted egg daily or every other day, and currently lives with 2 Easter Eggers. She is happy and healthy and the only reason we are re-homing her is because she is mildly...

    Need a food breakdown!

Hi, I am new to the chicken world and we've started small, just 3 hens: 2 Easter Eggers and 1 Welsummer. They were mostly free range all summer but due to poo issues and young children they are in a coop and run and put out in a tractor daily but will probably stay mostly in coop and run during...

Will they lay in winter if they havent yet?

This may be a silly question but Ive read a lot about when hens start laying and they fall/winter "lay off" so to speak. I have 3 hens, 2 EEs (that stands for 'Easter Egger, right? Still learning lol) and 1 Welsummer. They are 25 weeks old and only 1 EE is laying. As its already pretty cold in...

Yes Ive added netting to the top of the already existing fence so it would be over 6 feet tall. We left a few spaces open as the neighbor kids and my kids hop over back and forth to play... darned if those chickens did not find the only open spots within a few hours to hop over as well. lol...

Winter is coming...are my chickens smart enough to survive?!

Okay thanks for the tip, I will update my profile! In the meantime we live in central Northern Maryland. Its 90s in the summers and we get snow in the winter and it starts getting in the 20s at night in October...but it rarely drops below 0 here at any point, even with wind chills. I suppose...

Winter is coming...are my chickens smart enough to survive?!

Hi all, I have read tons of info about drafty coops and ventilation and not using heat lamps etc. Here is my question. I have 3 chickens who live in a pre-fab coop very similar to this one...

Hi All, I live in MD and am very new to the chicken world. We have 3 chickens that are now 6 1/2 months old: 2 Easter eggers and 1 Welsummer. One of the Easters is finally laying and we are getting lovely olive eggs from her. We are learning very quickly that chickens love to leave the yard...
