Is it a leghorn?? We have a leghorn, and she had her comb/wattle grow and darken just before she started to lay, at 5 months.
I'd say a roo. It's comb and wattle are large, and red for 10 weeks.
Good luck!
I let my girls free range as much as possible, and I found my best layer eating egg shells in the compost.
Since they are just starting to lay, could she be missing something from her diet (I've heard of giving them oyster shells)
Or..... Could she now have the taste for eggs/shells???
do you give them treats at all? Veggies or meal worms..... I have also heard of hanging a cabbage for them to peck at. Maybe they are bored....
I'm not too sure what to suggest for the food/water, but it sounds like it would be very frustrating. Don't give up just yet!!!
A couple days ago, our girls were free ranging and our brahama got stuck in our neighbours fence. I cleaned the wound and put her in iso.
This morning I took a look at it and her leg is turning green. There is no swelling at the site of the wound or on her leg. I'm not sure what to do...
I vote pullet, we have golden laced girl, very similar look, ours has more red in the comb, and thicker legs, both very rooish features yours has very thin legs, My research on blr we have I've found that you will either find out when it crows or lays an egg. Best of luck
