    Damaged caruncle on muscovy

He's still a little scruffy, but he still comes to the door for food, frequently, and guards the food from the mallards, especially when his mate is nearby. He doesn't seem to be different, personality-wise. I feed him from a cup, I don't think he can pick up cracked corn from the ground.

    Damaged caruncle on muscovy

He had looked normal about 2-3 days after his accident. He only started looking like this again lately. I can't say for sure he is not being mistreated. Either that, or a tussle with another animal.

    Damaged caruncle on muscovy

He is eating well, although he has to eat from a cup, if I throw the cracked corn on the ground, he can't pick it up easily. But I've seen him foraging around the plants, looking for insects, I expect. We live on a small lake, only 16 residents. They don't seem like the type to cause him...

    Damaged caruncle on muscovy

My muscovy friend showed up yesterday, looking very disheveled. Of late, he has looked pretty good, except for his face. He was his old self. I took this picture of him this morning. I don't know what went wrong.

    Damaged caruncle on muscovy

Google has conflicting information on whether his bill will heal or re-grow. Do you know? He doesn't eat the cracked corn off the ground as easily as before. And I don't think it's healthy that his tongue is always exposed. Plus, he gets the cracked corn stuck (temporarily) in the splintered...

    Damaged caruncle on muscovy

I even wondered if he mixed it up with a snapping turtle.

He is feral. But I feed him and his mate.

    Damaged caruncle on muscovy

I assume he hit a car, tree, bulkhead, something. He was really hurting for a couple of days, but he has bounced back. But his caruncle is no longer centered on his head. I know it impairs his vision on the left side. Is it usually moveable?

    Damaged caruncle on muscovy

Here is his face. He seems fine, health and personality just as before his accident. He lets me get close, but won't let me touch his face.

    Newbie Here

I'm not a chicken farmer, but a pair of muscovy ducks, and for a short time, a guinea fowl, decided my backyard is a nice place. I live in Southeast Virginia, and have always made a habit of encouraging wildlife. I also see a lot of mallards, and the occasional owl, eagle or osprey, as well as...

    Damaged caruncle on muscovy

The male muscovy who has taken up residence in my yard appeared on July 23 with trauma to his face. His caruncle no longer sits straight on his face, and his bill is partially broken (looks like a chipped tooth). The area under where his caruncle sat looks bony. He was lethargic for a couple of...
