    Olive egger questions

By accident, 10 years ago, had Americana Roo and Some Maran hens. I did start getting, what I called "Army Green" eggs, nowadays, I guess Olive. Now that I have many new chicks, am excited about hatching more myself. I will definitely cross several breeds with Americana, Marans, Salmon...

Hi from NE Georgia, new member.

When they came from Estes, they hatched and were mailed. I got them to the Brooder 3 Full days after hatching, none were dead. They did not slow down eating and drinking for at least 6 hours. Seems kind of hard on them. Would love to know how to get more pullets than Roosters when hatching them out.

Planning on hatching some out later this summer. My incubator holds 42. Pretty sure I need a bigger one. We used this several times, a decade ago.

This was before they arrived. Had them locked up in here for the first 2 weeks. Everyday I was working outside of this getting the larger pen ready for them. At 2 weeks they did not fit in here anymore, had to open the door. That feeder, did not hold enough food for 160 chicks....LOL

I never had Buff Orpington before this batch of 6 month old's. They sure are fluffy. I joke with people and say, " I am not sure where the chicken stops and the Feathers start.

Hi from NE Georgia, new member.

I imagined being a manager at a hatchery. Call everyone into a meeting. "Ok, listen up, we got 3000 extra hatchlings this morning. I want them all shipped out by lunch. Just add them to other orders." I have no idea how they schedule this shipping of hatchlings. I called up a very nice Lady at...

So the 6 week old's, keeping for a while to see which are roosters and which to keep. I certainly do not think I can deal with eggs from 70 chickens. I still remember years ago, 2 doz a day, took 30 min to collect, clean, package, date and put back in the fridge for the parents to buy. Little...

Hi from NE Georgia, new member.

I try to make everything automatic. Feeder holds 50 pounds, auto-water. But when they are young, whew....clean the water every few hours, check the feed, etc. The 50 6 week old's are eating 50 pounds every 7 days.

Hi from NE Georgia, new member.

Will retire later this year. Even though we have 17 horses for The Riding School, a goat, a mini horse, and I am the only "worker", Wife is the instructor. I am thinking, I have about a 2000 sq ft area I could put a roof on and enclose for chickens. The 6 month old's, hard to tell from a pic...

Hi from NE Georgia, new member.

This picture is when they were smaller, at 2 weeks. I have 4 heat lamps, 3 cameras and can control them from my phone. It was tricky as the temps went from 30F to 60F many days. I opened their door at 2 weeks old, they would not fit in the Brooder, which alerted us, that we should take a count...
