Thank you both! That's encouraging info... she's only sitting on 7 eggs I suspect she'll only hatch 3-5 at the most. We moved her into a crate inside the coop tonight and the babies went and drank on their own, and she sat right down on her nest, and tucked the hatchlings under. I think after...
Hubby and I want to know if our broody Silikes were possibly mated with our only roo, a standard Buttercup?? We've never seen him actually do anything with them, but he's tried. Has anyone evey seen a small standard mate with a Silkie???
I was wanting to see how nature takes it's course without allowing any of the babies to get killed by the others. I don't have any aggressive hens (that I know of). I have a shop and large brooder I can move them into, I was just curious if anyone has ever let the babies be raised in the...
Prayers for you now for peace and comfort and strength!
I just rejoined the AF Reserves, have 12 years prior, my kids think I lost my mind, they are grown now but worry for me.
There isn't much anyone can say but my best advice is a support group, network, friends, spriritual strength, and...
Thanks, sorry I didn't reply to the boxer question. Her name is Ellie Mae, we call her Mae Mae. She's gained 7 pounds since that pic was taken.
My time has flown, all my girls from Lisa are now laying and broody. I gave the Roos to a farm, just couldn't see eating Silkie Roos, (I eat my...
Unless there is some city or neighborhood ordinance, I wouldn't see why not, especially if it's considered non permanant (like on blocks instead of a foundation). Certain times of the year the smell is worse than others, but I don't find the smell offensive usually, mostly like straw, and dirt.
That's my plan then I'll close them up in the crate then with their mom for a few days, just not sure for how long,
by the way they look just like your avatar....cute!
We just went through a rough time a few weeks ago with hen's eating the eggs. I started noticing beak cracks in a few eggs then I noticed my egg production went way down, I didn't think that they would eat the shell and all but they do and can. I would nip it in the bud, the golf ball trick is...
I have a wonderful hen sitting on 7 eggs and two hatched already, they look just like their handsome daddy Buttercup. Well she hatched them in the nest box, I was going to move her and the nest and the babies into a crate in the run or other area of the coop. For those of you that might...
Just thought I would add, only serious flock-loving inquiries please. These are healthy well care for birds, that would require and existing run and coop etc. They have not been free ranged.
I hate to downsize my flock but I am in the AF Reserves, and have a lot going on. I have too many chickens for Hubby to care for on reserve weekends. If you bring a crate, I am giving away 3 -6 silkie hens, brown, black, grey, 1 Black Silkie Frizzle rooster, 1 beatufilul white Silkie Rooster...
