Broody mom abandoned chicks at 7 weeks and is now mean to them

Oh that’s great!! We were talking about what kind of brackets to hold the bars. That’s awesome!

Rooster and Mama Hen turned mean after chicks were a month and a half.

Thank you so much for the help. I just didn’t expect her to turn so mean and the other hen still mothers them as if they just hatched so it’s so interesting to watch. Really?! Wow. That is tough. Ha thank you again! :)

Thank you very much! I guess I didn’t expect the process to be so harsh. Took me by surprise. Thanks for the help :)

Broody mom abandoned chicks at 7 weeks and is now mean to them

Thank you so much for your response! I’m glad she’s back to herself. My husband and are actually talking about rearranging their bars. Everyone was the top bar and the same side. I can’t change the sides obviously but I’m thinking we are going to do the same thing with the bar. Our nesting boxes...

Broody mom abandoned chicks at 7 weeks and is now mean to them

Hi there! Sorry, I don’t have any help as I’m going through almost the same thing but I had two hens brood on the same clutch (I tried to separate them, but they weren’t having it.) Together they hatched 9 chicks. They worked so well together up until about the same point. One continues to...

Rooster and Mama Hen turned mean after chicks were a month and a half.

Two of our hens hatched nine chicks about a month and a half ago. Everything was going perfect. Mama hens were sharing the responsibility and getting along perfectly, and the other flock members were leaving them alone. Within the past couple of weeks one of the mama hens has turned on her...

    Chicks in nesting boxes

Thanks you! There were originally three hens brooding and they eggs were collected at different times. I had to move some of the eggs under the others when the third hen stopped being broody. There are two in one. I tried to separate them but they kept going back together so I had to leave them.

    Chicks in nesting boxes

Oh such a good idea! Thank you! I don’t know what to do because not all are hatched, but there is another hen brooding inside the box. Should I want until they all hatch? This will be the third day of no water or food for the hatched chicks and I’m worried about them.

    Chicks in nesting boxes

I had baby chicks hatch under our hens two days ago inside the nesting box. They still haven’t gotten out to get food or water. I have been told to leave them be, but I’m worried they can’t get out to get their food and water. Two hens decided to brood in one box and there are about 17 more eggs...

Broody hens in the middle of heatwave.

I actually have a temporary pen made. Should I wait until they hatch before moving? I am afraid to move them now in fear of upsetting them and breaking their broody behavior. I didn’t know if I should wait directly after they hatch or when. Sorry for all the questions, and I so appreciate all...
