I have heard good things about the New Ulm swaps, but that's a two hours drive for me. I had a barn fire in February and lost all my chickens. I'm really looking for any feather footed or crested breeds. Would the March 21st swap in New Ulm be worth the drive?
9-10 lbs!!!! wow... thats a huge hen. I have a couple cochins that are 10 lbs and they are big big girls.
I had a couple darker RIR's a couple years, but nothing close to the deep red I saw at the fair. The hens even had the green color in their tail feathers like the roosters have. I...
Last weekend I was at the Minnesota State Fair, and I was amazed by all the different poultry. I have never seen such beautiful Rhode Island Reds. They were so dark like a mahogany red. The buff Orpingtons were HUGE I mean HUGE!!! I would love to have a few of my own:D
Well I'm in Minnesota and the weather couldn't be nicer! Mid 70's and sunny for the last week and I have 10 laying hens and only getting 2-3 a day! I am wondering myself why they have stopped??? Those naughty girls!
Don't be said:)
Be glad you have BLRW's I have been trying for over a year now. I was on a long waiting list for BLRW's and got hatching eggs. They all turned out to be Blue Wyandottes and Columbian Wyandottes. So, I am back on another waiting list:)
Sounds like it would work.
I have a better idea... how about I ship you my silkies. They will not stop setting! It's very annoying:( Them girls set all Spring, Summer, and Fall!!!
So, if the bator doesn't work just get a couple Silkies. They will get the job done:lol:
With shipped eggs I usually get a 50% hatch rate with my Sportsman.
But I am in Minnesota and I usually end of ordering eggs from the south. The one time I ordered closer to Minnesota I got a 90% hatch rate.

My Wyandotte hens are friendly but they are first on the pecking order of the hens anyway... Not sure if that answers your question or not.
Do you have any pictures of your BLRW? I have been on a long waiting list for them. I ordered BLRW from a breeder in March and they ended up...
