ALL of my brown egg layers stopped hens to be sent the soup pot!!!!

Probably just too dang hot for them, and/or a moult. If they were laying before ( and at 6 months-- they're still just starting ) they'll get on with it sooner or later.

Remember- they're still growing into "adult" hood---- it's hard to grow, lay eggs, and tolerate all the heat you've been having at the same time . Give them a chance to grow and cool down a bit

It was this time last year that my red stars stopped laying. We had experienced some really rough weather for several days and I believe they had their first moult then too. I also had made the mistake of changing their feed and they were not happy about that at all. I changed back to the layer I had started them on and they went back to laying until winter set in. Spring came and they began laying again. Give them a little more time. They should start laying again. They're just young.

Are you in TX like me? I'm having the same problem! But it's not just my brown-egg layers, it's all of them...I'm getting 2 eggs, every other day. Today I got NOTHING. Not even my Leghorns are laying right now. And the weather has cooled by 10 degrees. I really don't understand. Maybe the stress of thunderstorms?? We've had a few rains lately after an extremely dry hot summer...but it's still not overly wet outside, no puddles or anything. I just don't get it....I might have to BUY eggs

Hi.... I am 20 minutes from you in Bellville! Sealy is my neighbor. Then our chickens must be effected by the "dought, heat and thrunderstorms" I see some relief from the dreadful heat maybe all o them will be laying soon... good luck to you neighbor... what kind of chickens do you have? do you want to swap eggs?

Wow, we really are neighbors! I have a horrible memory, so I apologize if you've told me that before and I forgot...

There's another BYCer in Bellville - Kathy. I got 3 pullets from her because we weren't getting enough eggs. They still aren't laying yet, but getting very close. I wonder if her chickens are on strike too...

I'm starting to lose track of how many chickens I have, how many are roos, how many are laying, how many are chicks, etc... I think I've come down with a serious case of Chicken Addiction...or Brain Fog...

I still don't understand why I only get 1 brown and 1 blue egg every other day. You would think they'd be LOVING this milder weather...I sure do! I was getting 6-7 eggs a day when it was 104 in the coop. (Only in TX can you say 95 is mild

I here you! I live in San Marcos the HEAT has been crazy! The river is getting dangerously low. I could not believe when I walked outside yesterday and it was a cool 70 degrees in the morning! of course it got up to 95 but even that was nice! We are beating out Arizona! 2 of my pullets started laying last week I am so excited!

I live just a few miles south of Bandera, not far from New Braunfels or San Marcos, so we have been sharing the "53+days over 100" this summer. My big girls didn't seem to be bothered by it, and we were getting about 12 eggs a week from the 3 of them. Then 2 weeks ago the Cochin quit laying, and last week the Minorca quit. All that lays now is "Janet" the Ameracuna. I have noticed a large number of feathers about the pen this past week, and am guessing they may be molting. How long will that last? I have a Rhode Island Red that that is about 22 weeks old that I am expecting eggs from any day now. Even as big as she looks, will she lay those little "fart" eggs I read about? My babies are just 16 weeks or so, so it may be a while till they get the idea. We had to buy a dozen eggs at Wal-Mart this week, cause we use more than 4 eggs a week. Grrrr Our families are starting to look at us funny cause they know we have 12 chickens and should never need to buy eggs & chicken food

I hope things improve by the holidays. I want to do my baking with home grown eggs.

Well I'm in Minnesota and the weather couldn't be nicer! Mid 70's and sunny for the last week and I have 10 laying hens and only getting 2-3 a day! I am wondering myself why they have stopped??? Those naughty girls!
