We have 6 hens. Two are BSL, not positive about the other. We were getting 4 and 5 eggs a day for a while, then it tapered off to 2 or 3. We suspected they were laying some where other than the house.
Yesterday, we noticed that our only grey hen (the rest are black) disappeared about 2pm. We...
I did not mind leaving them to free range. They went in the coop at night, but during the day spent most of their time in the barn with the horses. Each day is an Easter egg hunt because they lay in the hay.
Our back yard is 1/2 acre fenced with woven wire. No where for anything bigger than a...
Woke up this morning to 4 dead birds. They were laying in the back yard with no heads. Possum? Raccoon?
Yard is completely fenced. No evidence of dog or coyote. They have free ranged the yard for the past 6 months. Honestly, I am surprised I had not lost any sooner, but 4 my 6 in one night.
We have 6 BSL hens that we get 3 or 4 eggs per day from. Their house and run is on the side of the garage. We let them free range the 1/2 acre, fenced back yard during the day. When they are first let out in the morning, there is one hen that goes straight to the hay in the barn to lay her...
Lurked here for a few months. We have just over 6 acres. Three of that is heavily wooded. We have 3 horses and 6 BSL hens.
Never had chickens before, so it has been interesting. Got our first egg yesterday. Thanks for all the great info on here.

After posting, we had to go to Indianapolis for the afternoon (2 hour drive one way). Upon returning home, the birds were talking it up. Went to check the feed pan, it was empty, but there right next to it laid our first egg. Bout time! LOL
Been lurking here for a little bit. We have 6 BSL hens that are approximately 21 weeks. Wife is about ready to eat them. No eggs yet. Three of the 6 have bright red waddle and crown. They "talk" to us a lot when we go out in the back yard. I hope they start laying soon.
