A question for FBCM breeders. How often do you get a pure black rooster and hen with no copper from French Black Copper marans? Is it bad genetics, corrupted, or just something in the line that needs to be worked on? The black hen also has a short tail or no tail.
I'm guessing the pure...
Is this pair of geese Brown Chinese, African, or mix? I see some dewlap on the gander, but he has a long neck and likes to stand very upright. The goose doesn't have dewlap.
I think he's handsome... maybe I should hatch some of his fertilized eggs.
We bought some Welsummer pullets expecting to get yellow skin but they were sort of white. I looked at the standard of perfection and it calls for yellow skin. Maybe their definition of yellow is different than my expectation of yellow. We're talking about really yellow skin, not cocks or...
It was my sloopy hands cracking the yolk during inspection. I was looking for the bullseye mark for fertility and didn't see any. Would it have faded away during 10 days of incubation?
Anyhow, I ended up ordering 15 White muscovy ducklings from a hatchery.
Is it something about letting the egg sit for 24 hours to reattach aircell (which didn't happen), then not turning it in the incubator for a day or two, and letting it hatch upright?
I did let them sit for 24 hours upright pointy end down before putting them into my incubator if that helps...
Dang it, possibly money down the drain again. I got some more Muscovy and goose eggs from the same BYC user which arrived a few days ago (detached air cells again!) and are now 3 days into incubation. Maybe the winter in Ohio is causing those drakes and ganders to shoot blanks. Hopefully it...
Hey fellow BYC waterfowlers
I recently got 9 Muscovy hatching eggs shipped to me for incubation. Upon arrival, I candled them which showed all with detached air cells. Ten days into the incubation, I candled them again to my disappointment, all were clear.
So this is a question for some...
I'm looking for Pomeranian saddlebacks with good markings and pink bills/feet. Most gaggles I see are orange bills/feet mix or babies start pink then turn orange unfortunately.
Long story short, I am trying to reproduce from a mated trio. They are exhibition Brown Chinese geese I got from the Holderreads but I worry about problems with related offspring matings. The goal is to keep the quality in the long term.
The Holderreads were downsizing and are no longer...
