Since you already have up chickenwire I would use 1X2 welded wire or the 2X2 wire that was mentioned above. Either of these two wires would be stronger than hardware cloth and more than likely cheaper. I have also used chain link fencing and 2X4 weld wire horse fence.
jeaucamom, that is a great looking coop. I know what you mean about plans for a new one. I just finished my new coop for the first time about a month ago. Since then I keep finding things to add or do different. Its never ending.
