The issue was resolved by one of the first replies. I was asking how to minimize the effect of a storm so it doesn't stress my girls ou Thank you for offering suggestions, next time we have a storm like that (Which will probably be soon) I will try it out. The coop isn't small and it doesn't...

Chickens, although are not humans, are similar to humans in which they all harbor unique personalities and triggers. What may not frighten 99% of chickens, may distress the remaining 1%. It was a nasty storm. Not just heavy rain - it was loud thunder, lightening, extreme hail, and atrocious...

I beg to differ. Chickens do get stressed, and loud noise and intensive conditions can induce that stress. I've owned chooks for 7 years, and I know when a chicken is distressed. They were shaking, breathing hard, and making extreme amounts of noise. I only posted this to see if anyone has any...

Getting chickens to go in at night

The only tip I can really offer that has been effective for me is throwing some pellets or treats in the coop, that way they will run in to eat the food and you can shut the door. Good luck

    Traumatized Chickens--Need Advice

One of my chooks was attacked by a dog once. She sat around the coop and refused to leave for around 3 days. After that, she seemed just fine, as if she didn't remember it at all. It just takes time. I suggest predator-proofing the coop and ensuring there are no holes or gaps that could allow...

    Zelda the Potato Hoarder

Every time I hear someone say that chickens are stupid, I think about one of my past chooks, Zelda, and how clever she was in successfully hoarding roast potatoes. Here is a photo of the culprit: It was a Monday morning. Leftovers of the prior Sunday roast sitting in the bottom of the...
