    "Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

Folks, back in January I got some Mohawk line Rhode Island Red chicks from our own Chris Herzog. They have become unbelievable cockerels and pullets. The only problem is that I now have three VERY active cockerels, which is too many for my hens! If there is anyone on this forum who would like...

    "Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

I can attest to Chris having some mighty fine-looking chickens. They look even better in person than in pictures. He also has a great set-up to keep them in that I'd love to copy. Chris, of the 9 RIR's that I got from you, it appears that 5 are pullets and 4 are cockerels, so a perfect...

I don't have rabbits yet, but I have already purchased the cages and built a lean-to to put them in. We want to get them after the holidays. I really want some Silver Fox rabbits since they are a heritage breed in need of help and I like their look. Anyone here have them?

Bob Blosl's Heritage Large Fowl Thread

I'm planning on getting some Barred Plymouth Rocks early next year (Here's looking to you, Chris H!) I'm storing up all the information from this and other threads where Bob,Walt, and others contribute wisdom so I'll know what to do with them. That gravy bowl shape sure captures my eye...

Thanks for the sources of good heritage stock, folks. Unfortunately for me, just after making that post I came down with the worst case of fever, chills, and sore throat I've had in years. I've been bed-ridden and am just feeling a little better tonight. I am about two hours away from...

    "Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

Anybody in our lovely state that will have good quality heritage chickens that are being raised to the SOP available in the near future? I sure would love to get into the preservation act. I would really like Barred Rocks, but would consider RIR's, Orp's, NH's, and others too. I know most...

    "Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

Well, my flock is now coming down with its first outbreak of fowl pox. I'm not happy about it, but seems like it's the natural order of things...

Do any types of chickens come in purple and gold colors? Or even better, do any lay eggs of those colors? Sure could sell a bunch of them this time of year if they came in those colors....

    "Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

Less than 2" of rain over here in Avoyelles Parish. Chickens came through fine. In regards to flooring in the chicken coop, I use wood chips because my town has mountains of the stuff for free from when the town used to chip up fallen limbs. It's probably not as good as sand, but you can't...

I use the nipple waterers and they are great. No messy water and no dirty containers. I've got mine on the bottom of a 2.5 gallon bucket. My chicks got used to them from an early age, so I don't know how easy it would be to train grown chickens.

    "Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

Howdy folks, I seldom post, but thought I'd contribute to the La. thread just to show I'm friendly. Here's a pic of my coop. I've got quite an eclectic variety of chicks that free range around the back yard during the day from this coop. I'm loving the heritage chickens some of you...
