Yeah, @sourland, I thought that same thing, but way too nervous it might cause it to crack more.
She is drinking normally, the inside of her mouth is normal too, but just seems to be the top of the beak (above the quick i think) which split in two...it does look a little pink between the slit...
Hi there,
My 2.5 year old hen, MC Henner, has developed this crack in her beak on both sides over the past few weeks to a month and it seems to be getting larger. I can now see through from one side to the other. I have no idea how it started, she hasn't been ill at all and eating, drinking...
@Wyorp Rock Thanks so much for your feedback. Been giving her Calcium and will keep you updated. Nothing yet. I did check her crop this morning, it's emptying overnight ok, but agreed, she seems tense and uncomfortable. :( Really no change yet, hoping the vitamin boost will help turn things around.
@BigBlueHen53 Thanks so much for your response! She has never gone broody before, just the Cochin I have (and man, she is a mean broody hen! haha). As mentioned above, I would say this happened after she and the other hens molted, grew back feathers, and then the weird behavior started.
Thanks...

I was curious if the cold weather had anything to do with it. It never has happened in the past...

Hi there,
I am looking to re-home these chickies soon with some of my friends and want to make sure I give them what they are looking for. Some can have roo's and others can't. I need your help!
All chicks are now over 5 weeks old and father was an EE, the hens were salmon faverolle, EE...
Hi there,
I have 7 barnyard EE mixes and they have gotten big enough where I can now notice differences in the combs (about 4 weeks old). Below are some pictures of a few chicks I think might be roos, I would love to hear what people think as well! Any input is greatly appreciated :) Thanks in...
