Crack in beak on both sides, can see straight through other side

Yeah, @sourland, I thought that same thing, but way too nervous it might cause it to crack more. She is drinking normally, the inside of her mouth is normal too, but just seems to be the top of the beak (above the quick i think) which split in two...it does look a little pink between the slit...

Crack in beak on both sides, can see straight through other side

Hi there, My 2.5 year old hen, MC Henner, has developed this crack in her beak on both sides over the past few weeks to a month and it seems to be getting larger. I can now see through from one side to the other. I have no idea how it started, she hasn't been ill at all and eating, drinking...

Buff Orpington Acting Weird for Weeks, strange behavior

@Wyorp Rock Thanks so much for your feedback. Been giving her Calcium and will keep you updated. Nothing yet. I did check her crop this morning, it's emptying overnight ok, but agreed, she seems tense and uncomfortable. :( Really no change yet, hoping the vitamin boost will help turn things around.

Buff Orpington Acting Weird for Weeks, strange behavior

@BigBlueHen53 Thanks so much for your response! She has never gone broody before, just the Cochin I have (and man, she is a mean broody hen! haha). As mentioned above, I would say this happened after she and the other hens molted, grew back feathers, and then the weird behavior started. Thanks...

Buff Orpington Acting Weird for Weeks, strange behavior

This is great, just added! We are located North of Oakland in California. I would say this all started after she completely molted. If she was egg bound, wouldn't she be extremely sick by now? I was curious if the cold weather had anything to do with it. It never has happened in the past...

Buff Orpington Acting Weird for Weeks, strange behavior

Hey everyone, I have a 2 year old Buff Orpington hen, BokBokChoy, who has been acting very strange the past 3-4 weeks. I noticed one day, her tail was down and she wasn't moving much. I immediately brought her in as she was displaying signs of being egg bound. I made up a comfy crate for her in...

Hi there, I have 7 barnyard EE mixes and they have gotten big enough where I can now notice differences in the combs (about 4 weeks old). Below are some pictures of a few chicks I think might be roos, I would love to hear what people think as well! Any input is greatly appreciated :) Thanks in...

    Curious what breed this is...

Hey everyone, My broody hen just hatched 6 chickies and hopefully 2 more in the next day or so :) I am trying to figure out what breeds they are as I got the eggs from a friend who has a ton of different chickens, hard to say what hen the eggs actually came from. Let me know what you think...

How do you know if your chicken is overweight?

Awesome, thanks so much for your reply! I was always curious if they would overeat if they are free feeding. Thank goodness she has that thick coat, it's been super chilly here. Can't wait to see her beach bod after the molt :)

How do you know if your chicken is overweight?

Hi guys! This is my first flock and nervous about my Buff Orpington, Bok-Bok-Choy, being overweight. She is the alpha of the 3 chicken flock and seems to hoard all the food and bully the others so she can eat the majority of it. I am curious, how do you know if you chicken is gaining too...
