Feather problem with 8 week old pullet.

I guess I will remove her but I hate to because it is always a pain to reintroduce one. I am not sure it is actually feather loss. Tonight I picked this one up and it looks like the bare areas are actually covered by pin feathers with small white feathers poking out the ends. Looks pretty...

Feather problem with 8 week old pullet.

I am not sure this is exactly a problem but figured I would get others to weigh in. I have 25 8-week old Rhode Island White pullets. I noticed on one of them it seems to be having a problem feathering out. All of the others are feathered out everywhere except for a few bare spots when you...

    Breed ID

The person selling them said they were unsure and I heard at the local Atwoods last week someone mixed up all of the store's chicks so I am guessing they are from there. I think I am just going to pass instead of taking a chance on them. Thanks everyone for the help.

    Breed ID

Somone in my town was trying to sell these on craigslist and are unsure of the breed. I was wanting to know what they are before I buy them if anyone can ID them.

Switching chickens diet to animal proteins

Yes they are a dual purpose breed. They are a cross between my gold star hens (RIR/RIW) and New Hampshire red rooster. I will post any changes I have to make as I go along or at the very least post an update after slaughter.

Switching chickens diet to animal proteins

I am going to give it a go as planned and see what results I have. The wheat and pork are free and am not really looking in to spending money on these birds. I figure I am going to have to get rid of them when they start crowing anyway so I am really only interested in putting weight on them...

Switching chickens diet to animal proteins

Does anyone have an experience with this? I am about to do a little experiment with 20 6 week old roosters that I was planning to cull anyway. Plan to feed them their daily protein requirement with shredded wild hog meat and then also supply them with some fermented wheat to eat throughout the...

    Summer heat impacting slaughter time.

I have 30 New Hampshire Red roosters that are 14 weeks old and weigh 3.5 to 4 lbs each. I was hoping to slaughter them at around 6 lbs but they have stopped putting on weight due to the heat (100F+). They free range in a large backyard and I also keep a 50/50 mixture of commercial...
