Welcome to Coop Deschutes! I started out thinking it would be nice to have a couple of chickens, and put together an inexpensive coop on my own. After searching for a materials, tools, and a coop blueprint, I realized that I might as well just find someone to make it for me. Duane from Celebrate...

Hi All, We lost two of our chickens last night to a friend's dog who dug a hole under the run The Buff was our favorite, she had an issue in the beginning and my partner spent hours nursing her back to health, even took her to work so he could keep feeding her with a dropper and make sure she...

    Help-Cleaning coop with shop vac

Okay, it seems like such an easy thing to figure out, but how do you clean out your smaller coops? My coop is about 4x4 and is on stilts with fencing around the bottom. Half the coop floor is chicken wire so when they roost, the poop goes through the wire. But it's not all going through, AND...

    Alaskan coop

Fabulous! Better to end up bigger than smaller. That way you can always get more chickens! I'm from Anch. as well, have family all over the state. I guess it's not the racoons you'd be worried about.....

Need feedback (trouble shoot) on my new coop

This looks really good! I could be wrong, but 3x3 might be a tad small for up to 6 girls. My coop is is 4x4 with a 5x4 attached run and it will only hold 4 girls comfortably.

    Are all Bantam eggs small?

I am thinking of ordering some bantams and was told they all lay small eggs. Is this true for the most part? Smaller bird always equals smaller egg?

7 wk old Ameraucana roo or girlie?

Yah, the legs are HUGE! I can take it back to her, I guess it would be as good excuse as any to purchase MORE chicks. I was really hoping for some blue/green eggs..sigh. Or if it was a marans, that would be nice, oh well. Back to the drawing board

7 wk old Ameraucana roo or girlie?

The woman who sold me these girls said her Ameraucanas already have neck fluff. I live in city limits and can't have a roo, I'm trying to figure out which way this is going. Thank you for your input!

    Is it bad?

I'm in the same boat! After having the coop custom made and run, each chicken is now worth about 260? And my only thought is, the coop is to small now that I want to add some more chickens! I'm giving myself some time for the excitement to wear off, if it does then I know I'm fine. If it gets...

I'm in Bend too We live inside city limits, so we can only have 4, but that's okay since I dont' think my coop could hold anymore. Are you taking your kids to the re-showing of Mad City Chickens? We went to the first one and had a good evening.

    New Coop and Run

Quote: I agree. I wasn't there when he dropped it off...My partner decided that's where it should go. I have to go out of town this weekend and dont' feel like having the discussion that it was misplaced right now. I think I'll wait till I get back and just move it myself, saving some flames

    New Coop and Run

Here are some photos of the new coop and run. I purchased the run off of craigslist, and it turns out the guy who built the coop for me also built this run. I also purchased the chicks from he and his wife. There are two doors at the bottom of the coop for them to get out in the run, or out the...
