    koi pond + ducks = yuck :(

I'm looking for some advice about what I should do with my ducks. I had a beautiful koi/goldfish pond that had blooming lilies, iris's, hyacinths etc. This is my first spring with the ducks being full grown and the pond is gross. It's green, it smells terrible, none of my plants are growing...

    duck eggs for eating

Haha that's what I thought!! I have 2 female mallards that each lay an egg daily and I have 42 in my fridge. I float tested a few of the oldest ones (I'm not exactly sure which are oldest/newest but I have a general idea) and it still laid flat, maybe barely starting to stand up. We need to...

Ok, these should still be good then. I'll just float test any I'm unsure about. Thank you for your reply!!

    duck eggs for eating

How long are eggs good in the fridge? I have a large supply of eggs and I want to make sure they are still good before giving them away. I did the float test on some of what I think are the older eggs and they just barely started to stand up. According to the site I found if the egg lays flat...

    no eggs this morning

Well I figured out what was going on with the eggs, they've built nests and were hiding them from me! Little sneaks lol. I think they are about 9 months old now. This morning there was just one egg and when I let them out one of my females disappeared. I looked all over the yard for her and...

    no eggs this morning

There was no eggs in the duck coop this morning. I've been getting one egg for around two weeks, then two for a good 4 days or so, then this morning, nothing. I cannot find any info on if they continue to lay if you take them. All I can find is they lay 5-12 eggs then start sitting on them...

    egg!!

Wow! Thanks for your reply. I'll have to do some research, that sounds really complicated! Could I keep feeding the same food and just offer oyster shell on the side? Drake won't eat it? Sorry if I seem clueless, but honestly, I pretty much am lol. How would I know if my girls aren't...

    egg!!

Oh I guess knowing what I'm feeding now might be helpful huh?! lol Actually I'll have to check. I get it in 50lb bags and there's not much marked on it. It's some kind of standard pelleted duck feed. Do I need to feed the drake seperate than the hens? Thank you!! I'm excited :)

    egg!!

Well it finally happened. I went to let the ducks out this morning and there was an egg :) Now, what's the chances it's fertile and still good (it's cold to the touch)? Do I need to supplement or change their food at all? When should I expect more and how many? TIA!

    mean drake

It's been a while since I've been on this board. I hope everyone is well!! I had some questions about my mallard drake. I have him and 2 females. They hatched in July of last year so they're about 8 months old now. Anyway, the problem with him is he is getting quite mean. He chasing anyone...

    cold weather advice

I could probably do that. I concerned though that they'll get out of the enclosure and get into something out there. Ugh, I didn't realize earlier that it was going to be so cold or I would've made arrangements for them. I love these guys so much it's crazy! I'l figure out something. Thanks...

    cold weather advice

Im not sure really. There's no windows and it is insulated but it doesn't seem bad in there. There is a ceiling fan out there that's always on. My husband seems to think if I put them in the crate that they'll hurt themselves cuz they're bigger now. We're currently discussing what to do. He...

    cold weather advice

Right. Thank you for your help! I'll put them in the crate in the garage tonight. I'm sure it will cool down in there as the fire will be out all night so it'll be closer to the outside temperature.

    cold weather advice

The garage is very predator proof. It is not attached but it is insulated and my husband started a fire in the wood burning stove out there so it warmed it up a bit. I'm not sure what the temperature is out there but I know it's warmer in there than out in their coop. Do you think there is any...
