Sorry guys, I overreacted a bit. I suppose I'm a just a little stressed, I usually don't fly off the handle like that I really do appreciate the help, I'm just upset about the losses. I've never lost this many birds and was very worried for my others. They are very well separated and I'm...
OK...for the record, we were building the 8 x 12 addition to the coop BEFORE the chicks were ordered, I had no intention of keeping 25 birds inside. However, due to a 7 day stay in ICU and the death of my father things got a little sidetracked. The birds are now in an 8 x 12 add on to the coop...
Ok.....I have taken a deep breathe and calmed a bit after reading up on cocci. I'm going to add some DE to the litter although it is fresh and clean away all bloody droppings. I'm also adding some cider vinegar to the water and going to pray for the best. Like I said I'm not interested in...
I'm down to 20 birds and I would have rather not have had them in the house but I didn't have a choice as the add on to the coop wasn't done. They have been moved to the add on now, sorry I referred to it as the brooder. However it is a 8 x 12 foot room. I just went out and for the first time...
I am trying meat birds for the first time and to be honest, I'm not doing well. I'm having big losses by the birds trampling each other. I had them in a spare bedroom for the last 4 weeks. (PEEYOOO) There were in a VERY large appliance box and we keep it 70 in our house. I would find one...
I have a droppings board, but I made it one easier. If you have the room, fill a plastic box (I used an under the bed box) with your shavings and DE if you have it. You don't have to clean as often and I think it's easier to carry out of the coop and wash.

Hmmmm...... we have access to free pallets, too!! I wish I could talk my husband into doing something like that . I would love to see pictures of the completed outside! Thanks for sharing.... great job!
Just bring the pallets home. Hubby has to do something with them or...
Man..that picture is very crazy if that is level. Turned it all different ways and the trees looked slanted then. I believe ya but wow..weird pic. I love the idea of the rough wood, very Green of you.
Is it just me or does everyone else notice the lack of enthusiasm in non-chicken owning folks about eggs. I get so tickled over the almost pink color of some of my eggs or the size and my friends just think I'm goofy.
I searched this problem intensely. What I decided upon was tea tree oil mixed with baby oil. The tea tree oil has a natural antiseptic property and heels them heal from the mites. I waited until they went to roost, mixed some in a shallow plastic container at about a 1:10 mixture and had my...
