Well, let's see, 50 straight run, with my luck that's about 20 hens....
Must agree, great job, great coop. When are you coming to build mine? I know where I can get free pallets....
Anyway. I would reconsider the roosts being at varying heights. If you get heavy breeds they need low roosts to prevent injury, about 30". They fly a lot higher as teenagers but their joints don't need the stress as adults. And if you vary the height, you are giving them something else to fight about, as the highest in the pecking order gets the highest roost. I have a bunch of 10 week old roos, most headed for the freezer, but I want to keep some for making new babies for next year. Even with 3 roosts at the same height, I see more squabbling over roost position than I would like. They squabble enough as it is....
Thats a whooooole lot of nest boxes. lol. Looks great. I love the colors. Red and white is one of my most favorite color combos. My house is red and white on the outside, my living room is red and black on the inside, my kitchen is red and white, my bed room is red and white, my coops are all red and white, and my shed is red and white.. do you see a pattern ? lol

So set roost at same heights? How many sets of 2x4's? Was thinking at least 4. And what height is ideal.
My chickens are (this is what i was told now, i'm no expert) Araucanas (certain of), new hampshire reds (what he said), Orpingtons (certain of), cochins (certain of hairy feet), barred rock (certain of), and one with a white furry head (looks like the guy from "Kid & Play).
Thanks for the advice. Any help is welcome.
P.s. Had one day no rain on monday (my birthday go figure) and i finished my wire around bottom of coop. Raining again on Tuesday!!!! GRRRRRRR
Well, I've been planning for every type of predator but i forgot one main one....MOTHER NATURE!!!
Tornados hit our area today.
Luckily my chicks were a week or so from making it to the coop. Lost some of the roof and door was bent. Winds were gusting 65 -80 mph. Family and all the chicks are well. Our home was unscathed. Only damage was our garden fence and my coop.
Our 4 hens outside rode out the storm in the chicken tractor which made it ok. Roof panel from coop flew across yard and were on the roof of my truck when we got home.
Roof is back on now with 3x as many screws. Back to getting it finished.
I can officially state the "Pallet Palace" is rated for winds up to 80 mph.
