It's hard to tell if they are rocking or if it is just wishful thinking.
I have them under some grow lights to add a little more heat. Using up my data watching them from the car...
The external was how we knew it was cooler. I think the bator just gave up the ghost.Tested right at first, but crept lower. We had it at 40 by the end. and the external (fancy scientific thermometer/humidity sensor) said 34 by the end.
most of the eggs were too dark to really see much. I'll...
Well, I think this hatch was a bust. The temp on the bator was low, so I expected a laggy hatch, but we are now on day 24.
Any thoughts on how long to wait before calling it? We've never had a hatch go south before.
From the first day, Buffy the Wormslayer has loved Lou.
And Lou loved Buffy. Well, I believe they are not going to be as close.
The Husband went out to let out the chickens and feed Lou Thursday morning. He came crack with Buffy. She didn’t look so good.
In fact, when he went out there...
One more peep this morning. We are up to 8 now. Four from Meyer's Hatchery, and four from Summer.
The latest from Summer wasn't very active in the brooder coop and Summer was out with her other chicks, so we threw it in with the Meyer's chickens in the indoor brooder with the temperature control.
Yeah, she spends a lot of the day with the peeps, but it is warm here, so they still reach incubation temperature. I don't expect all of the eggs to hatch, but am happy when they do. This is a bonus hatch - we didn't expect to do another hatch, but Summer decided she needed to hatch some.
Our broody had one more chick. We looked last night and one was pipped. We could hear it pecking at the shell - and this morning we have a new chick.
We also are picking up our Meyer's order from the post office - a polish and three salmon favorelles.
So far we have three hatched over the last...
We are up to two chickies from our broody chicken. We still have nine eggs left. I think she started brooding, then let other chickens lay over the next week or so - so it looks like we will have new chickens every day or two for a while.
One of our Welsummers decided to go broody three weeks ago. We couldn't keep track of how many eggs she was sitting on, so we just decided to roll with whatever.
We got our first chickie from that brood today.
And it looks like up to 11 additional siblings are on the way.
Well, we had 8/11 hatch, and all is well. Got another 15 from Meyer (one died en route). They are happily chirping and playing in the brooder in our mudroom. Hopefully this weekend, we can kit out the stock tank and move the livestock out of our house and into the garage. Now we just have to...
Up to five out in a very laggy hatch. Four in brooder, one in bator and one zipping, three pipping, one not making any progress. One didn't make it out. Will assess when they are all done. Not bad for an initial count of 11 eggs.
So far two hatched, one didn't make it out of their shell, and eight left. Pretty laggy, but we are only day 22. It got a little cool in there a couple of times, so I'm not all that worried.
last time I looked it was two more pips and three more peeps. Three with nothing going on.
and we...
