One of my 5 week old chicks has an extreme case of scissor beak and she is not thriving like her flock mates. She has a difficult time eating and drinking and isn't feathering out at the same rate. What are some humane ways to cull her besides the obvious of taking her to a vet?
Today was my hatch day for the chicks I ordered from MyPetChicken.com. Well, at lunch I get a call that 3 out of the 5 breeds I had selected under-hatched. Bummer - but I understand. So the lovely customer service rep I spoke with was so helpful and we got my replacement selections squared away...
I just bought this one http://www.randallburkey.com/chicken-supplies/incubators/hovabator-incubators/hovabator-incubators/circulated-air-hova-bator-incubator.html and got an additional 15% off with the coupon code "March". Knowing nothing about the world of incubators, I hope I got a good deal!
I'm looking at either this one http://www.randallburkey.com/chicken-supplies/incubators/hovabator-incubators/hovabator-incubators/circulated-air-hova-bator-incubator.html
Or this http://www.amazon.com/Brinsea-Mini-Eco-Hatching-Incubator/dp/B008HVM692

I'm looking into getting an incubator, preferably for under $100. Any recommendations? Any brands to avoid? I don't need anything huge - under 10 eggs would be just fine. And I'd rather stay away from the DIY route, too many variables to mess up.
Thanks!
Yeah, I heard about sand hill already selling out for the year. I would love to see how everyone's dumpies from last year are doing. I'm curious about the quality from sand hill.
I tried putting the water up on a brick. Getting pine shavings everywhere must be their superpower! The hanging waterer looks promising! I'll have to give that a try!
I'm a week in brooding 6 baby chicks I picked up from Rural King. At first I had them in a large Rubbermaid tote but they seemed to quickly out grow that. Now I have them in a Pack and Play. In the tote I had pine chips but they knocked them everywhere! So with the pack and play, I started with...
I figured that was the case, but I didn't feel much heat and then I saw one panting (chickens pant, right? Lol) in the back. When I took her out, she felt nice and toasty :) I guess I was concerned bc we had a long drive home and this is my first rodeo with baby chicks. Older hens I can do, but...
I just picked up 6 fuzzy babies at Rural King, I'm using the heating pad cave brooder method that I found on this forum. My question is, how do I tell if they are cold -- and too hot for that matter? It doesn't feel like the heating pad is putting off much heat. Though they are all snuggled...
